I’m not saying Xander will make a run at tiger, but we’re talking about players who have had great 18 month stretches.

There’s been a lot of names mentioned in here that didn’t have the run Xander went on last year.

They tinker with swing mechanics that don't really need adjustment and, as others have mentioned, wealth kills drive to win.

So not as good as Phil, which was the whole conversation. Got it

Player played all over the world and typically would only play 12 or 15 PGA Tour events a year of course he isn't going to have as many PGA wins as Mickelson when Mickelson is playing in almost twice as many PGA tournaments a year than Player was. A third of Player's PGA wins were majors. Roughly one out of ten of Mickelson's wins were majors.

They are already close dude. At worse Rory will pass him on wins and be two majors behind him

It’s wild this has any downvotes.

Golf is by far the hardest game to stay dominant at, there isn't anything close
There are 20 golfers with 5 majors or more

Only 14 tennis players in open era with 5 grand slams or more

Seems it’s slightly easier in golf to stay “dominant”. Likely due to the longevity being less physical

People don’t realize how much Rory has already accomplished. He is already on the same career tier as Phil with 10 years of great golf left

I mean thats idiotic. Rory has to win 15 more times to tie Phil. That’s 2 wins a year well into his 40s. Possible? Of course. At worst? Not even close. Worst he wins 3-5 more times and gets no more majors, and then he’s not very close to Phil’s career.

He’s averaging 2 wins a year since 2020 and hasn’t picked off a major in over a decade. That should be his prime based on historical averages so not sure why’d you just pencil him in to continue and eclipse what he’s done in that timeframe for another decade plus

the argument is he wouldn't SNIFF Phil's numbers, not whether or not he would pass him.

2 of those wins are at Quail Hollow which is hosting a major in 2 months.

20% less wins and majors doesn’t sniff him, imo so if he wins no more majors and clips off 10 more wins, he doesn’t sniff him.

He's going to have to continue to be a top 3-5 player for a decade and win a major to even get close. Pretty tall task, even for Rory

The Wells Fargo isn’t a Major and he’s shown us for a decade he melts when the pressure gets real

2 more majors and he'd arguably pass phil, that's definitely sniffing.

Assuming Rory only wins 5 more times(which is kinda ridiculous), that would be the below. Saying they “aren’t close” is just silly Mingo

Rory McIlroy
Has been in the world's top 10 for 740 weeks

Phil Mickelson
Has been in the world's top 10 for 775 weeks

Rory will certainly pass Phil in that

20% less wins and majors. Back door top 10s to rack up money do nothing for me

i guess time will tell.

Lowry put it on Rory the past 2 days

Rory will have to putt his arse off to beat guys like Scheffler/Koepka/Bryson/Morikawa because he isn't just gonna beat them with his driver like Tiger's ex-wife
