Why do pitchers fear being the one to give up milestone homers?

Aaron Judge has walked 4 times tonight in Toronto. Not intentionally, Jays are just dancing around him when they get to two strikes. Can’t speak to their game plan but it’s…curious with the record in play.
Postseason pitching gaffes are understandably infamous, but I don’t get the hesitancy around pitching to a guy approaching a milestone. If this is a real fear these guys have, I can’t understand the stigma. Pitchers give up bombs all the time, but it seems like pitching to a batter on the brink of a milestone is like a game of pitching musical chairs. Can anyone really remember the name of the pitcher who gave up Maris’ 61st? Bonds’ 71st? Especially for the bigger names, I can’t see a way in which their failure to deliver would be considered anything other than an unread footnote in someone else’s history.

Pop threw him like 7 sliders and 3 sinkers. Like wtf. Not a single fastball to hit.

This question can’t be serious… who wants the be on that side of history???

No one gives a shite about judge trying to hit as many home runs as someone else who doesn’t have the most.
He’s not about to hit a milestone, he’s the fricking footnote.

This isn't true at all to anyone outside the south.

I mean, don’t they want to be interviewed in 20 years when the documentary is made!

Because the Blue Jays pitchers know the Yankees suspect hitters behind him have struggled much of the year. It's hard to fathom Stanton hitting .209.

The Red Sox were throwing it right by him on Saturday and Sunday. Do you just pick one game and make an entire assumption about pitchers?!
He literally struck out twice and popped out on Saturday

They are trying to win nobody should give him a single thing to hit for the rest of the season. Take him out of the equation and force the rest of the team to pick up the slack

Everyone knows Tracy Stallard gave up Maris’ 61st… Carl Pavano McGwire’s 70th, and Dennis Springer Bonds’ 73rd

He is over .500 obp his last 7 games which included 4 with Boston. He is taking what they give him. Unselfish to stand there and maybe see one hittable pitch per ab.

It has been nearly 25 years, and I still know that Steve Trachsel was pitching when Mark McGwire hit #62.

^^^^^ That’s a stupid fricking thing to say.
Dude is about to tie the AL home run season record and Yankee team record for home runs in a season.

WTF does this have to do with anything? There are as many bandwagon Yankees fans in the south as anywhere.

You think Nolan Ryan and Clemens would have been walking Judge terrified to throw him a fastball?

yankees need to pay some stiff to give up the next two
