I will die on the hill that RBs and WRs need to learn to throw the ball out of bounds on blown up plays. RB took a 7 yard loss, if he had thrown it away there are 2 outcomes; an incompletion or a 5 yard penalty for OL blocking down the field and a replay of downs. Both are better than a loss of 7 yards and a loss of downs yet it is almost NEVER done. I don’t get it.

NVM. I misread this.

Dumb play call there

It's not even a "hindsight is 20/20" thing. The second they snapped the ball and I saw the play call I thought "Oh no!" Your season is on the line with a shot at the Championship game and that's what you dial up? It's a simple risk/reward analysis. You run that play and your best case scenario is a touchdown. Great. But your worst case scenario (outside of a turnover) is a tackle for a big loss and you completely frick up your 3rd and 4th down play calling. Which is exactly what happened. It was so unnecessary. If you keep is simple there you score far more times than you don't.

Toss sweep is dependent on WR’s blocking and for the most part they usually suck at it. Dumb play call there

They also need space and you don't have then when everyone is in or near the box down near the goal line.

Teams no longer practice plays from under center. Just stupid.

If they had been struggling all night to run the ball maybe I could understand but frick I cannot explain the rationale there…just really fricking stupid with everything at stake. Huge risk vs reward. You get stuffed there, you still get two cracks at it. Instead you have two obvious passing downs with a mental midget qb. Just really , really bad decision making

Have watched Brian Kelly frick that up for 3 years now.

He ficked it up at ND too.

See 2010 vs Tulsa, 2011 bowl game vs FSU.

1st & goal at the 1 = fade pass every time.

Lost both games, in the former game Kelly killed a student earlier in the week too, then denied all responsibility, just to be a dick.

This is the real issue.

The refusal to EVER go under center. 100 percent of plays not under center.

So if you never ever go under center, the idea is if you do go under, odds are the center / QB exchange will be an issue.
he was under center on the first down.

Yup, so since they don't practice it, they won't use in a game.

I know he has that reputation, but I'm telling you that if LSU or any OC guru ever called anything other than 4 straight ahead runs with 1st down from the 1 yd line....I would fire them on the spot.
Pitching the ball back to a rb on the 10 yd line may be the worst offensive play call considering the situation, I have ever witnessed.
Sark is 100% responsible for Texas very possibly not being the natl champion this year.

I guarantee you that if Mike Leach (RIP) was in this situation, he might not have called four runs up the gut … or maybe he might have, his offenses were tougher and more balanced than people thought … but he damn sure would have called something moving toward the end zone, there wouldn’t have been any pitches behind the line.

There are plenty of times during a season for coaches who command the big bucks to show why they're such experts in their crafts.

1st and goal from the fricking 1 yard line in the final minutes of the national semifinal game in which you trail by a TD ain't one of those times. I don't give a shite if everyone in the stadium knows what you're about to do. fricking run it up the gut!

Yes just go to the core of “football”, if you can’t get 1 yard you don’t deserve to win.

Outside of the pocket there is no intentional grounding as long as you throw it past the Los

Retarded to line up in the shotgun from the 1-yard line. Have watched Brian Kelly frick that up for 3 years now.

Could not agree more.

QB should be under center or at most in pistol, but shotgun negates the power run game and lengthens the distance the RB needs to cover.

I don’t see any schematic advantages to running shotgun inside the 10 unless you have catastrophic issues with the OL or something.

Just get the ball to your best players with standard play calling in situations that call for it.

Like the fade pass in the corner of the end zone….it fails way more often than it succeeds. Just pound it with a tush push from the one yard line….Texas had 4 plays to do it.
