I’m not even talking about Disney.. there are several suburbs that are very nice. Downtown is becoming a great area. Orlando is a great place to live.. beach is 30 minutes away

I have a good friend that works at city hall, and has told me he would never live in Orlando... he does live in a suburb and says it’s great.

They would have won it all had they not screwed up the team chemistry by playing Jemeer Nelson in 2009. Skip-to-my-Lou had them rolling and they benched him for a dude that he did not play for two months.

If I were an NBA player, Orlando would not be near the top of my list of potential franchises because:
Smaller market means less lucrative endorsement deals
Theme parks are great for the kiddos but Orlando isn’t exactly known for its night life
It’s hot as balls year round without a beach

New York, Brooklyn, Chicago, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Golden State, Philli, etc are all better markets.

Portland, Washington, Denver, and New Orleans are all more fun cities to be a young millionaire.

Now, Orlando does have better weather than Detroit, Milwaukee, OKC, Indiana, Cleveland, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Minnesota and the tax benefits.

Sacramento has screwy L.A. taxes.

SLC is weird and boring. Phoenix is...yeah...

Similarly, Memphis, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston all also come with no income tax.

Orlando wouldn’t be my last choice, but it wouldn’t be a top choice either. Kinda a mid-tier destination at best from a living standpoint.

Its just an abysmal front office, and ownership that is happier to make money than win.

Until the later changes the former, they'll continue to get the same kind of results.

Not if you have to take the parking lot known as I-4 at any point.

I remember going to the Citrus Bowl when Georgia played Nebraska and thinking I might get stabbed walking from where we parked to the stadium.

They have tried on occasion. Penny and Shaq. McGrady and Hill. Dwight and well...Lewis I guess?

We just never hold remotely good talent for long. McGrady at one point was MVP level and we couldn't build around him. Dwight the same. Shaq they did have Penny abd Grant but fricking couldn't win the big one.

True on all of those except ATL and Charlotte. Those 2 have much more temperate climates and 4 seasons.

Never forget the summer of 2000 when they had all that cap room and Doc Rivers had just nearly led a team full of nobodies to the playoffs—still probably Doc’s best coaching job.

Imagine if they had landed Duncan and T-Mac, which was their initial goal. That would’ve made for some fun finals against their old star Shaq and his new sidekick Kobe.

Landing T-Mac and Hill was still exciting and intriguing in an open East, but Hill’s next five years were basically lost due to injury. Tough luck.

That was one of the first coordinated group NBA free agent frenzies that I can remember, crazy it was in Orlando of all places

I mean they've been a playoff team for a couple years but Isaac and Fultz having blown ACLs and getting next to nothing out of Bamba and Okeke are the biggest answers to your question

They were also set up well with draft picks. Drafted Mike Miller high in the 2000 draft. I’m sure he would’ve been an even better complementary piece with Duncan there.

Of course, no state income tax was often mentioned as an appealing aspect of signing with Orlando. T-Mac was from Florida, so that helped. Duncan being from the Virgin Islands was also seen as an advantage.

They def planned ahead and set things up for that summer. The Penny trade to Phoenix comes to mind. It was a blank slate.

They’ve managed to remain in NBA purgatory by being bad but not that bad. Haven’t had a whole lot of high draft picks. Mo Bamba being a massive bust didn’t help.
