Because they don't have talent.

The Big 12 is a complete joke when it comes to talent. I'm not even sure they should be a main 5 conference.

It's close.

They just suck and have no talent.

It's just bad football. It's worse than arena league. Big plays aren't even exciting because they happen so often and are generally met with little resistance. I would rather watch a Sunbelt game than Big 12 football.

I found the opening day rosters by conference and the Big 12 should be embarrassed.

Big 12 closer to G5 in NFL talent.

SEC 335
Big Ten 239
ACC 228
Pac-12 210
Big 12 123
American 100
Mountain West 63
C-USA 63
Independent 40
MAC 39
Sun Belt 20

It gets even worse if you isolate for defense only.

Texas high school players are slightly overrated from an athleticism standpoint.

Well no shite the schools in Texas will recruit there

Your post was still incorrect, not every school in the conference relies on tx for players
quote:

Last year all the power 5 conferences had at least 250 players in the NFL except the BIG 12, which only had 148.

The SEC had 358 and the American had 104

The big 12 is obviously closer in talent to the top G5 league than the rest of the Power 5.

All those conferences have more teams which mean more potential players in the NFL.

It as bad as the old Big East.

What a dumb fricking post
The old Big East with Miami,WVU,VT, Pitt( when they were good) and others was a good football conference.

They are well coached, but they peak early and lack the raw athleticism that the players from the Deep South states possess. The ones from Houston are pretty athletic. That part of Texas is Southern.

I'm speaking of the Big East prior to the last conference expansion. Miami and Va Tech had already left.

You know the Big East that had Cincy, Rutgers, Connecticut and South Florida.

Big 12 is not long for this Earth.

You are deflecting. The conference has the least amount of talent by a lot. Even when you do a per team average it's dead last.

Big 12 dearth of talent

It's much closer to the American than it is to the rest of the Power 5.

Only 48 defensive draft picks over a 5 year period is pathetic.

And yet the Big 12 is still the second best conference this year.

I don't think it's a matter of not playing defense as it is to the styles of offenses they run. If you want to keep up with OK and OSU you better get a coordinator that passes the ball alot or you can't keep up. If you pass alot, and score quickly, you are putting your defense back on the field sooner. Over the course of a game they just can't keep up that pace and are gassed. Look, if the Big 12 teams played grind it out, running style of football their defenses would be better.

The Big 12 is better than the ACC (pitt is in 2nd) and the PAC this year.

Part of the problem is that they actually have good offenses. Another part is that most play high tempo which means a ton of plays are run.

Big XII defenses usually do fine against non-Big XII teams
