re: Why Ben Simmons isn't the top prospect in the 2016 NBA draft

Simmons will step on the court in the pre-draft camps and remind everyone why he was so highly regarded coming into college and why he is the best NBA prospect. His unique abilities will shine through once again and the glowing reports will return once he is able to get away from the anchor that is Johnny Jones. Jones is barely an adequate Sun-Belt Conf. coach and has no business being the head coach of a power conf. team. In fact, he never would have had he not played for Dale Brown and had Brown constantly pushing for him to be the LSU HC.
Simmons will be fine.
Simmons will be fine.

smaller court than NBA
has no jumpshot right now, so teams collapse
has no teammates that is a threat to open the half court up
JJ posts him up, his teammates can't get him the ball, and even when he gets it he has no moves in the post.

ESPN might have built him up to much, but who else has been a better prospect since LeBron and Durant?
The guy who plays 80 miles away.

im blanking on where i read it but i saw a guy do his annual statistical analysis of the prospects and he came out with simmons as 1 and ingram at 2 and then a decent drop with simmons being close to a dwade level of prospect

AD is amazing and I love him, but people were comparing him to Marcus Camby before the draft.

this is so fricking dumb but im not surprised.
Johnny Jones fault, NOT ben simmons.
Simmons will kill in the P&R in the NBA.

Exactly, that's why I said he surpassed his expectations. Those guys were talking about both him and Ingram being in the Wiggins/Jabari class of prospec
I mean my first post in this exact thread said such a thing. The Simmons backlash isn't so large if people actually listened to the people who knew what the hell they were talking about before he ever set foot on LSU's campus.

He was also the unqestioned top pick and many compared him to a better version of KG.

Not my quote. Came directly from a scout at Draftexpress.

exactly. Media members are easy to confuse. I remember Larry Holder questioning the Pelcians taking Davis at #1
trust your eyes, then let the numbers back them up.

And then you said he might not go in the top 5 of last years draft. Yea some LSU fans might be dumb and thought he was the top prospect since Lebron but he was always elite and maintained that.

People need to take a serious look at how the team rarely runs off ball screens, cuts, etc.
By-product of the coaching.

How?
I think he can find success in the NBA, but not as much in the PnR game.

any compared him to a better version of KG.

It's surprising they are hammering on him for this. Great defense means you have to trust the guys next to you, and you have to stick to your assignments. You frick up your part and you leave your other teammates exposed and they get fricked. It's no secret that JJ was a terrible coach this year, so I find it interesting they give Ben so much shite for it.
Besides, just because Simmons doesn't have that "dog" mentality doesn't mean he can't be a good defender. I've seen him intercept passes, block shots, especially when the pace of the game is fast. He's very opportunistic and he has great instincts. You can't teach instincts and you can't teach talent. Ben has both.

Ben Simmons=Anthony Randolph
I have said this in other threads. Randolph is still in the NBA. I see Simmons having the same type of career

Keyword "might"
He'd probably go 2 after Towns. Hindsight makes the idea of him going over some of these other guys difficult.

Isn't Randolph overseas?
