He was good every where he went before getting to A&M

He was bad at A&M but he took for a limp dick program and treaded water

The problem was he was a good ole boy coach when Texas high school started going all spread. Those A&M teams were slow as shite

If we are not just talking W/L, could Art Briles end up in this conversation?

A lot of great examples here but I personally have never witnessed a coach in the stratosphere of Willie Taggart. The man had the team staying at 2 different hotels because he got the booking wrong then had walkthroughs in a parking lot

Why the hell is a HC of any DI football program booking hotels for away trips?

If you rank all 32 NFL franchises in terms of all-time winning percentage, Cleveland is like 21 or 22.

Tampa is 32, and a distant 32 at that.

I came here to make sure everyone agreed that it was Chad Morris and then I saw someone mention Ellis Johnson. Morris will have to settle for being the second worst ever.

Ears Whitworth took over at Alabama in 1955. They were two seasons removed from a SEC title. Harold Drew left a solid program. Whitworth immediately destroyed it, going 4-24-2. He was fired in 1957. Bryant was hired and the rest is history.

Kevin Steele and it isn’t close

Steele was the head coach at Baylor University from 1999 to 2002. His record was 9–36 (1–31 in the Big 12 conference).

Would be the worst if his morbid obesity was factored in. What’s he up to now?

It's clearly Whitworth. Going 4-24-2 at Northwestern or Vanderbilt is one thing. Going 4-24-2 at Alabama is entirely another. Under Red Drew, who preceded him, the program had declined from the glory years of Wade and Thomas, but they were still contenders for the SEC most years, and of course Bryant came in after Whitworth was fired and won the NC within four years. Whitworth was apparently a special kind of awful.

Too young to remember Curley Hallman. He rode Bret Favre to LSU, left LSU to be an assistant at North Alabama, left there to HS and couldn't win there either.

Taggart was dreadful at FSU.

Someone else mentioned John L. Smith. His teams at Michigan State always had talent and were pretty damn scary when they were clicking, but my god did they know how to melt down.

LINK to GameDay piece slamming Greg Robinson

Thanks for posting this. I watched that when it came out. It was kind of like a publicity thing for when The Express was released. But they couldn't really celebrate the program because Robinson's teams sucked so bad. He doesn't get enough credit for how monumentally shitty he was as a head coach. Syracuse became a laughingstock under him, a reputation that still persists. Corso was spot on in that piece, Daryll Gross sucked just as much as Robinson.
