friend and i were debating this
I feel Ralph Sampson was better than Cousins even though his career was cut short

At his peak I take Sampson but no doubt Boogie had the better NBA career because of Sampson's injuries. He had one decent year with the Warriors then it went fully off the cliff.

I suspect your friend is either pretty young or new to basketball, if he thinks what the Pels did was unique in terms of their lineup.
But AD is clearly better than Sampson and I see no way that could be argued.
Cousins is much closer but when it comes to the NBA, Cousins> Sampson.
Sampson had 3 very good NBA seasons but many of his best years were in college (where he was a standout), and he was almost done by the time he was 26.
