Cousins, by a wide margin. RS was a better person, for sure, but Cousins had far better seasons than RS ever had in the NBA, which is where the talent is revealed. Avg a double/double the first nine seasons in the league. He was an immature idiot many times, but he could ball. Had size and bball ability, moreso than RS. There was never any chance he was coming to Bama, but it sure would've been nice for that one season.

Prime Cousins was a 27 and 10 bucket getter.

Sampson lives on in basketball lore more so because of his UVA days than the NBA.

I think Prime Cousins was better

Sampson was the first super tall guy (7’4”) who was fairly skilled and could move almost like a guard, sort of a precursor to Wemby but certainly not that whole package that Wemby is. Akeem was better than Ralph from Day 1 with the Rockets, though.

Cousins no doubt. Sampson is 65 years old.

That’s a close one but Sampson was the 1A player on a finals run and Cousins couldn’t lead a team out of round 1 so the edge goes to Ralph.

And still y'all are missing the greatest frick-up in NBA history

It wasn't Portland drafting Sam Bowie.

It was Houston not taking the trade they were offered for Sampson after they selected Olajuwon

What does that have to do with the thread?

That someone chose to not trade Ralph Sampson (see thread topic) for Michael Jordan.

Dear lord.

What does MJ, Dream and Clyde being on the same team in an alternate universe have to do with a comparison between Cousins and Sampson?

Sampson unquestionably

Cousins is statistically better in virtually every aspect. And was a more dominant player.

I HATE Boogie Counsins. But the only thing that is unquestionably clear is that most people on here never watched Boogie play. Which tracs because most of the board hates basketball and certainly weren't watching the Kings play if they did watch.

Boogie was on the Pelicans when AD was in his prime and considered a top 5 player in the NBA. It became pretty clear early on to Pels fans that watched all the games that Boogie was the better player of the two. When Boogie decided that he was going down low, he had unlimited power. It was crazy how dominant he could be. And he was an outside threat that was harder to defend than AD.

Sir talking about Ralph Sampson in a Ralph Sampson thread is not allowed. Please stay on subject.

The contrast, Cousins is a heavy, lumbering player with shot making ability operating in a spacious situation. On D he was slow footed and not athletic. Sampson was a half foot taller, smooth athlete, very fast, maybe unprecedentedly so for his size, who could finish in traffic operating in a congested offensive space. He could move on D and protect the paint vs bigger players. I’m taking the second guy but it’s close.

Sampson. Cousins was an absolute turnover machine with the Pels
