He doesn't get my vote. I'd take Barry Sanders or Walter Payton or Earl Cambell over him anyday.

Barry Sanders is the best.

Jim Brown is 1st. Sanders is next.

Peak value, I would probably go with Sayers.

Emmitt is possibly not in top 10. He had an amazing ability to not get injured, and thus ranked up a lot of carries and a lot of yards behind an all-star line and playing with a QB and WRs that didn't allow the opposing team to focus on the run.

Have you ever looked at his stats? I know they played fewer games and all, but he gets a tad over rated imo. He was electrifying, but becasue he got hurt we always have the what if question and just assume the what if would be great.

As for peak value, its hard to top Earl Campbell's first 3 years. Also Marshall Faulk had a 4 year run his last year in Indy and first 3 in Stl that are also hard to top.

Jim Brown.
Liked to beat up women but the greatest RB ever.

Hard to argue this however OJ had a streak that was amazing from 1973-1975.

Some of those guys like Payton and Campbell did it with little supporting cast.

Over at Dallas, when Harper left, then Irvin got hurt, suddenly Emmitt wasn't as productive or dominating.

He did not have a pro bowl lineman until 85, the year after he broke Brown's record.

Better than that...I saw him play live. He and Sanders are the two most "amazing" RBs I've ever seen. And, that's what I meant by peak value.

And I would say that his stats up until his knee injury speak for themselves given the era he played in.

I would agree that his peak value is up there in top 2-3. After that, it's all just arguing.

Campbell was pretty much the offense. You had Pasorini and Billie White Shoes Johnson but they really weren't great players. Campbell took a team that was average to the AFC champeenship game twice. He performed despite Bum Phillips.

For my money I'll take Emmitt. dude could do it all. He wasn't the fastest, yet you constantly saw him breaking long touchdown runs, wasn't the strongest, yet you saw him always fall forward for the extra yard. Wasn't the shiftiest but nobody seemed to get a clean shot on him very often. He rarely fumbled or missed a game to injury. He played hurt and played in BEAST MODE. Did it for a long time. Did it when it counted and was a WINNER.

He disagreed with you, he must be wrong.

And I guess using exclamation marks is like rings on a tree? The more there are, the older you are?

Oh, and I haven't seen one of these threads in a while.

Is he the best running back ever. No. Is he one of the greatest running backs in the history of football, YES. He deserves his spot in the HOF and if you disagree you are not that bright.

Everything Emmitt could do, Payton did better.
