I think you are reading another thread.

OJ wasn't consistant????

but I'd actually rank Emmitt #3.
OJ ahead of Smith cause of the shitty teams he played on.

Barry Sanders, dude quit in his prime. Theres no telling what his numbers would be had he kept playing.

Do you also think Kareem is the best basketball player of all time and Karl Malone is better than Michael Jordan?
An argument could be made that Kareem was better than Michael Jordan.

True but this is a terrible example to begin with. For a true example Kareem would have to be compared to other centers and Jordan to other 2's. After all the topic is best RB not best football player. Just sayin'

I don't even think Emmitt was the best Cowboys running back. Emmitt benefited from a great OL which also allowed for a good passing game.

Emmitt Smith is the Pete Rose of running backs. He came to play every game, he played hard, he put up solid numbers every year, and he played longer than others. Definitely a great running back, and deserving of the Hall of Fame, but not the best ever.

agreed. But then again part of me wants to rank production over talent. In that case, it's hard for me to discredit him as the best ever. But Walter Payton is my numero uno. Those other guys I think solid arguments can be made for Emmitt when people are being rationale and not Cowboys haters.
But opinions are what it seems to be all about(rightfully so) and popular public opinion will never have Emmitt as the best ever.

Reading this thread makes one thing clear: Emmit Smith is at the very least the most underrated back ever. Some of the names being tossed out as his equal are simply absurd. Pierre Thomas? Even Earl Campbell.
consistency is the #1 thing you need from a running back. It is also the least appreciated skill. I'd still rank Brown and Payton as 1 and 2, but I'd actually rank Emmitt #3.
And I friggin HATE the Cowboys.
I love everything up until this...

I don't think Michael Irvin has any business being in the Hall of Fame. He's the guy who benefited from have awesome teammates. But Emmitt was a workhorse back who simply got 4 yards every single time.
Michael Irving to me was the workhorse that Emmit was except at another position. Irving did dirty work all the way down the field, blocking, going over the middle, etc. But when it got to the red zone Emmit got to punch it in. I have a lot of respect for what he did on the field, cant say to much about off the field. But his HOF speech showed he really did love the game. And though he isnt the best in the hall, he was one of the best in the 90's and pretty deserving. And was nice to see him get it especially since the way he went out, laying on the field in Philly with fans booing him off the field.

I dint catch the speech, so I dont know. But I heard he basically gave all his credit to Moose Johnson. Saying he wouldn't have gained a single yard without him.
Fill me in on him beating his own chest...

plus 1. I seemed to have missed that part.

if he said this, I'm sure he means he happens to hold the all time rushing record so it was kind of factual.

Know of anywhere to watch the whole thing?

I watched it in several parts on Youtube the other day. Not sure if it's still up there though. And I couldn't pay 100 percent attention either, I was trying to feed my baby and converse with my wife as i watched it. Multitasking like a mother fricker. So it may have been said, but I missed it.
