I know I'm supposed to hate the guy, but I find Tim Tebow one of the more likable, genuine athletes of the last quarter century. He did it in the era of social media and the 24 hour sports news cycle -- if he was a phony, he'd have been found out long ago.

I don't think anyone necessarily hates HIM, it's just the media that still to this day hangs all over his nuts and puts him on a pedestal.
Another reason I like Wuerffel more is he was religious without being in-your-face about it.

Love Gehrig as well...good call.
Mine:
Ted Williams
Not only is he, in my opinion, the greatest all around hitter the game has ever seen, but spent two separate tours in the armed services DURING his playing days cutting huge time out of his active years. Despite that, his numbers ares till crazy good. What would the early 40's have looked like had The Splinter never been gone??
In 1941, in the day of the season sitting statistically at .3996 he CHOSE to play the double header...and promptly went 4-5 with a HR and 3 singles in game one, and 2-3 with a double and single in game 2 propping his average to .406. Bad...arse.
His smoked a HR in his final plate appearance in MLB.
After baseball, his became one of the preeminent faces of fishing in America.
At some point before he died, Bob Costas was interview Ted and said something to the effect, "You know...John Wayne was playing you in all those movies." Ted's response..."I know."
To The Kid!

Like Mike!! If I can be like Mike. He changed a whole generation of peoples thinking toward the NBA and the marketing of athletes.

I've never seen a basketball player make it look so easy, and I have never been as excited about acquiring a player as I was the day I heard the Rockets were trading for T-Mac.
The way he effortlessly held the ball in one hand, the way he dunked, the way the ball went down on his jumpers, the way he threw incredible passes. Never have I enjoyed watching a basketball player as much as I enjoyed watching Tracy McGrady.

Fedor Emelianenko.
Because he was a regular looking white dude that snatched the souls of everyone he fought. His demeanor was extremely interesting.

Favorite Astro growing up. Loved the way he played the game and how unselfish of a team player he was to have started at 3 different positions.
OR
The Kid. I'm convinced that if it wasn't for injuries he would have gone down as the GOAT. He was the complete package.

Bo Jackson is my favorite athlete that I actually watched play. He could do things that just seemed unreal.
Ted Williams is probably my favorite to read about. I admire those guys that played sports at an incredible level and also made huge contributions off the field.

for me its Michael Jordan and it isnt even close.
I am much more of a football fan now, but as a kid growing up i remember the excitement every night after i would eat dinner and get a shower to run to the tv with my dad and find the bulls game to see what jordan would do tonight. I believe there has ever been an athlete with his ability to draw in people to watch their craft as much as mj did. Bulls down 2 with any time left on the clock.. no problem, jordan would hit the shot. You just knew it. I have never seen an athlete dominate a sport like he did over a career. And as he aged and couldnt jump out the gym like he used to, he would transform, he would develop a new way to put you down. he would back you down then hit that fade away jumper. He was just a freak we will never see again i dont believe.

Manu Ginobili. Because the way he is/was able to drive fearlessly to the basket was incredible to watch.

agree with this. I HATE baseball, hadnt watched in 12 or so years. Couldnt tell you who won the last world series. But i didnt miss a griffey jr game if it was on tv! The kid just had it, and his home run derbys were the best

played basketball my whole life. Enjoyed the lakers due to shaq going there. Played the same position as Kobe so once Shaq left, I continued to follow him. Dude's a winner.

Lou Gehrig. I love old movies and Pride of the Yankees is one of my favorites.
He really was a great guy, and what a sad end to his life.
