96 Magic was a joke, players were afraid to guard him and Bird was already gone. We want to see 80s Magic

it's like saying you got to see Jordan with the Wizards

I was alive but I wish I were my age now-ish to see MJ play. I didn't grasp it the same when I was a 8-10 year old kid. And hell I was like 3-5 when he was killing the early 90s. That doesn't count at all. Watching some of those playoff games live as a young adult would have been unreal.

But overall, Pistol Pete at LSU. So far ahead of his time.

I imagine being a 13 yr old kid living in the Bronx in the 20s was pretty damn cool

Let me go with Bill Russell. I feel like if I could have watched him, I'd also see Wilt and I'd have a much better grasp of the hierarchy of the Top 5 or so NBA players of all time.

That being said, I'm 95% confident I'd be greatly disappointed with what I saw.

I would say the number one athlete I regret not getting to watch though would be Roger Staubach. The reverence with which my father's generation talks about him is really unique in sports, the guy was a borderline national hero.

Well put.

Hakeem's 1995 playoff run was awesome to watch, he averaged like 35 and 12 and straight up destroyed two of tGOAT post players.

Most people were too busy missing Jordan to care about those filler titles

Yeah. I have so much fun just watching his footwork during reruns on NBAtv. I'm more partial to a skilled big man than I am wings.

For reference, I was young but remember the Bulls first 3peat. It was their second & Space Jam that made me a fan of the game and made MJ my favorite ever.

Magic/Bird, Ali, Herschel, Montana & Bo Jackson are all in the running.

Top 2 would be Pistol Pete at LSU and Babe Ruth

how much your family and friends were into it. My Dad is a huge bball fan and I had 2 older brothers who did remember Bird/Magic.

Probably also why I identify with Gen X more because I had all their hand me down toys and movies from the 80s

Definitely. My dad and older brother were into every sport so I was basically forced to watch. Baseball was biggest though which is why I remember prime Junior Griffey, Sosa, prime Pedro vividly

I'm 27 now and I'm obsessed with golf now. Started watching about 4 years ago. Seeing all these threads about how dominant tiger was and how no one will ever touch that makes me really wish I would have seen that. I remember hearing his name when I was younger but was the farthest thing from a golf fan.
