I know many will say that he hasn't done it long enough to be the greatest, but I don't think the sport has ever had an athlete the equal of Jones.
the funny thing is, he's not even that good of an athlete. just wait until this newer generation starts coming up.....

doesn't change the fact that he's still not that good/elite of an athlete. he's #3 on my all-time list thought, just ahead of Hendo at #4. JJ will probably pass Fedor and Anderson fairly soon, and then will get passed himself within the next decade. The sport is young and the talent will only increase.

?? Should he do Pettis matrix kicks off the fence or SpiderSilva spin moves to win you over in this regard.

I think he's a great athlete(family genes say so too), just on a solid technical delivery long lean muscular framed physique, elite endurance & strength conditioned, and trained from a sound disciplined fight camp.

no doubt his frame/physique is ideal (so are his genes), but I still don't believe JJ is a "great athlete". There are numerous mma fighters I'd put above JJ (in terms of athleticism)....including Matt Mitrione, Josh Burkman, Rashad Evans, Frankie Edgar, Anthony Pettis, Jose Aldo, etc etc

Yeah that kick ended his prime. He's still beaten the best competition.

During Ali's time boxing was the accepted fighting style of the day. Today we have expanded the rules of what's acceptable. Still can't rip each other's throats out and see who the real best fighter is, can just see who the best striker/grappler is. Just because the times have changed doesn't mean you should disregard Ali

Why are people lumping boxing and MMA? One has nothing to do with the other.

Because mma is not the true determinant of fighting skill. Fighting to the death would be the true test. Mma is just fighting until knockout or submi... name your thread who is the best mma fighter

That is idiotic. Neither MMA or Boxing is "fighting"

Ali dominated the HW divisions of Boxing for 17 years(ages 18 to 35..Uncle Sam screwed him for 3.5 of his best 26-29). Sticking around too long as an old fat man for his last four fights in years 18 to 21 of his career..

Fedor was great for his first ten years as an MMA fighter(age 23 to 33ish), disposing of most in the 1st round. And though not his fault, his opponent list hasn't fared too well in the history books, as sans some greats like Nog, and tough outs like Herring in his prime, Randleman, Coleman, etc..in retrospect it's largely a bunch of journeymen.

Fedor didn't beat a Liston, Foreman, Norton, Frazier, etc..maybe one in Nog?

okay im gonna go off the deep end here, and i will say that one of the greatest fighters is megumi fijii. yes shes a female strawweight fighter. yes she was a pioneer before female fighters were getting more popular. however 26-2 record. 19 submissions. 2 losses were when she went to bellator and was 2 bullshite decisions.

i still think fedor is the best. i dont think he was necessarily past his prime but unlike many fighters he didn't go or change his training camps . i think that only hurt him towards the end as well as fighting in the cage. didn't he knock down both hendo and werdum. i think he went in a little too aggressive with those guys. i really thought he looked great in his lasts few wins although they were against inferior competition he showed more patience. i kinda liked seeing that espcially in the monson fight. i dont think he even got hit
