I'd have to consider putting Wilfork on the list. He isn't going to have anything to write home about in the stat column but he made those New England defenses a lot better.

Off Tackles used to play in a 3 pt stance until LT.
They couldn't get out of their stance fast enough to block him.

The fact that Donald has stayed healthy means he had better more consistent career, not that he was a better player with both guys at the top of their games.

Bob Sanders for the Colts was always a what if type player. He was spectacular when he was healthy, but unfortunately the injuries derailed his career quickly.

It’s hard to compare players from different eras, and would be unfair to those guys to compare the type of athlete Urlacher was to them
He covered, he rushed the passer, he went sideline to sideline. He was just a rare species that even the generational LBs of his era had trouble living up to. So those older guys really don’t stand a chance, but yes, they were great when the game was much different

Sure I do. JJ Watt is the best defensive player I’ve ever seen, with arguably the best single season from a defensive player ever. When healthy, there was no one better.
Pretty sure his 5 healthy first team all-pro years and 3 dpoy’s qualify him for your discussion. At his peak, no one was better.
How many guys can get you 20 sacks as a 3-4 DE, be awesome against the run and set record for most tfl’s in a season, and also have as many pd’s as a good cb season, all in the same season? It’s sad injuries are gonna diminish his career and how people view how good he was.

Watt is not far off from what Donald is, the only difference is health. He’s probably the second best defensive player of the last 20 years behind Donald.

Watt also came in second for MVP one year, statistically his second best year, behind Aaron Rodgers, and he was closer to winning MVP than anyone was to him in his 3 dpoy awards. Donald won it comfortably one of his three times.

While all that is true. It can be argued that Butkus was better relative to his era than Urlacher was relative to his.
You said Urlacher might be the best LB in NFL history. But if you asked people who know football and football history, many (perhaps most) would say that he wasn’t even the best in Bear history, Butkus was.
Regardless, I agree they are both all time greats.
