To me Cubbies,I grew up with them.
To Country,I still think Cubs.Chicago is a huge media market.
To Steve Bartman...DEFINATELY Cubs. His life might be able to finally resume normally.

Next time a baseball game is on TV just look at the crowd, there are more kids in the stands than pretty much any other sport

Normally people don't care - but WHEN there is a Triple Crown threat/winner the nation awakes from its slumber...and goes bandwagon crazy. Cubs are for Cubs fans...horses are national - you'll have coeds lining the rails.

There have been 11 American Triple crown winners
The Cubs have won 2 world series
There have been 5 triple crowns since the cubs were last in the world series.
There have been 4 horses who almost made the triple crown this since 2002
Baseball is bigger than Horse racing if you don't think so you're stupid.

1) the Cubs
2) the Cubs

I didn't say that horse racing is bigger. I actually said it was dying, and I picked cubs for #2 even though I don't give a shite.

So I'm not stupid.

I was just pointing out that I am someone who is under 50 that cares.

I do appreciate your commentary about my intelligence, though

I would love to see a Triple Crown. I remember Funny Cide being close and Smarty Jones REALLY close to winning. I didn't have access to tv that weekend because I was traveling. I remember watching the race at a Walmart tv display.

That said...the Cubs winning would be a huge story. We're talking about A team that wasn't won in 100 years to a Triple Crown that hasn't happened in 30.

How about real quiet being really close?
I almost missed a flight because of that one

it would be the Cubs.

there would be interest at the time they clinch getting in the play offs, and each series, including the entire World Serious.

Hence, the Cubs. not that many people follow Horse Racing at all, compared to baseball, and if a horse does win all three, the big noise would be just the couple of weeks after Preakness and a week or two after the Belmont. then no one will care. if the triple crown winner is allowed to race as a 4 yr old, and loses to a horse of the same age, the whole mystic would be over.
Probably retire him to stud before 4 year old races.

The Cubs shite would go on and on like plague.

It's worth about 15 seconds on the sportscenter top 10. People may tune in, but no one will actually care.

I said if you think Horse Racing is bigger, not which do you prefer. You can prefer any sport you like. You're not an idiot.

I'm under 50, I'm 26 and I give a damn about both. Sue me. Lol

Seriously Cubs woul be bigger story, but man a Triple Crown would be awesome to see. It's so unique in sports because 95% of the fans are all cheering for the same competitor to win, it's really unprecedented.

Because horse racing is pretty much a dead sport unless there's a Triple Crown threat people forget how the starved public goes bananas compared to normally not caring. I'm not saying horse racing is huge - I'm saying that if a Horse won the Triple Crown - the media would blow it up and the public would eat it up. The sport/public is STARVED for a horse to do something nobody believes is possible anymore.

Smarty Jones 2004:

Preakness - A record crowd of 112,668 packed Pimlico for the Preakness.

Belmont - A record throng of 120,139 people at Belmont Park.

Smarty Jones’ story - a perfect storm of media attention, record-breaking crowds, and a frenzy that surrounded the Triple Crown that hadn’t been seen since Secretariat’s run in 1973.

His bid for the Triple Crown caused the highest TV ratings in 14 years. The betting pool for the Belmont was over $100 million.

What's this idea that the nation is starved for the Cubs to win?

The horse racing fervor won't last long but the enormity of it would be a true national story whose apex would be bigger. Every year there's WS winner - nobody wins the Triple Crown anymore. There are a lot of women who don't watch sports but come out of the woodwork for these feel good horse racing dramas.

I don't think a movie about the Chicago Cubs is making over $140 million at the box-office like Seabiscuit did.

You can see the spike for Smarty Jones' run at the TC in 2004, to about 22.5 million viewers.
Yes, but let's be real. That's like a 5 minute commitment from the viewers.
