No way to know, but that trade from Boston was a big deal at the time.

He'd be among those legendary AFL players who doesn't get inducted into the Pro Football HOF because he played on mostly bad teams and didn't make much an impact outside of that UNTIL he was the play-calling linebacker for one of the great football teams of the 70s.

Maybe. Rich Jackson is in the Hall and he had a much shorter career than Buoniconti

I agree. And that is my point. None of that is based on how well he played football. If he would have been in some shite small market then none of that would have been available to him
But it's the Hall of "Fame," not the Hall of Stats or Hall of Best Players.

Was coming to say Bart Starr.

5x NFL Champion (2 of them SB's) ...
...but threw 152 career TDs with 138 career INTs! Yikes!

That’s actually a pretty darn good ratio for that era. Namath threw 173 TDs vs 220 INTs. Unitas was 290 vs 253.

Kenny Stabler played 70-84 and threw 194 TDs vs 222 INTs. Bradshaw 212 vs 210.

Bart Starr was quite efficient of a passer for his era. Led the league in completion percentage four seasons and passer rating four seasons. His numbers in those two categories were WAY above the league average, as was his TD to INT ratio.

Great points. Which means in an alternate reality, Jameis Winston could've been a HOFer.

Besides the media hype and the women chasing,….

Besides the numbers that were almost literally average comparing things like TD to INT ratio,…..

Besides the one Super Bowl win,….., and Guaranteeing that win,….

Joe Namath was one of the most pure passers to pick up a football, his throws were a thing of beauty. That is a good reason alone to have him remembered with the best that played the game.

Stabler belongs and I will post a quote from another source,
"Stabler should be in the HoF. Should note that he did all of these incredible things likely while hungover as frick. Most of you can barely stomach taking a hangover shite. He remains a legendary figure for older generations and even with all the crazy stories told about those Raiders teams, he was the craziest of them all. Did he do some shady shite once? Yeah, but so have many others in the HoF."

I was out with some buddies in NOLA late Saturday night, during football season, back during the Stabler years. Besides FAt Harry's the only other place open was an upscale expensive joint that none of us could afford. Can't remember that bar's name. At 2 or 3 am saw Stabler and John Mecom sitting at a table completely covered by beer bottles. Later that day I thought the Saints were going to get smashed like these two gentleman. Next day the Snake was on fire and smashed the other team to pieces.

HOF, heck yeah!

I mean...possibly. If he goes back to the 60s NFL but has all the advantages of today in regards to conditioning, detailed fundamentals coaching (like throwing motion, look at many of those guys from back then), etc. Hell, those guys had to have jobs in the off season to put food on their families' tables.

The World Record in the Marathon has dropped about five minutes over the past 20 years or so.

Bradshaw,

WHAT?

Maybe if he has won just one or two Super Bowls. This guy won four Super Bowls in an era where QBs called their own plays and got hit like running backs.

Opponents considered Bradshaw the best in the business in his day. Terry Bradshaw belongs in the HOF.

I agree. Bradshaw also evolved over the course of his career from athletic scrambling bomb thrower into an elite passer (for his era), throwing for 300 yds in each of his last two Super Bowls at a time when 300 yard games were rare for QBs. In 1980 there were 14 games with a 300 yard passer. In 2024 there were 117.

The subject is HOFers without rings. If we are talking about stats, Dave Krieg and John Hadl have more yards, TDs and better completion %. I'm mot buying "Pittsburgh was a run first team." So was 99% of the league

Even if he didn't win any Super Bowls? That was the original question
