When exactly did the concept of “storming the field” lose its luster?

“Storming the field” used to be reserved for only after the biggest of wins, usually only after big-time upsets. 1997 Florida type of stuff. The 2024 Ole Miss game was a great game, great win, but I felt that it did not warrant a field storming. LSU is a better program than Ole Miss. But the students did it anyway.
Florida State, a proud program that has been there and done that, stormed the field after beating an Alabama team that may be a solid team but is years past its prime. In Week 1. Feels like in this day and age students just want to do it because they see others do it on social media and want to be part of the “cool” crowd, so will do it after any reasonably big win. Want to post on their Snapchat stories that they got on the field.
Can anyone pinpoint an exact moment where “storming the field” lost its special feeling?

The people that storm the field don’t view it like you are stating here though you’re not wrong it used to just be huge wins. but it’s become a common occurrence probably because it’s a copy cat phenomenon

Once the Band storms the field before the game is over, everything else pales in comparison...
I think Utah fans ended the coolness of storming the field when they did it against BYU? 3 Times!
Because the game still wasn't over b/c of penalties and they had to get them off the field each time and the final seconds of the game took half an hour..

October 25, 2014. A once proud LSU program rushed the field after beating Ole Miss. The world is knew died that day.

Wow, I didnt realize that we’ve stormed the field on Ole Miss 3 times. That’s wild. 2014, 2022, 2024. Damn.
Storming the field to me says, “We didn’t expect to win because we don’t believe in our program.” Alabama has NEVER stormed the field. Because they know they are an elite program. Not doing it shows confidence, an expectation of greatness.

Just like the WNBA torturing grown men every day on the MSB, I hope we can pump the numbers up on field storming for the keyboard warriors.
It’s a fun event and seeing rantards lose their minds over people enjoying themselves is something else.

You can “believe in your program” and still acknowledge that maybe youre in a down year. That’s better and more honest than just believing you should win every single game that your team ever plays in all of history.
Also, it’s college kids.

Getting to be on the field after a game is pretty cool, which I often get to do because I have some actual access.
Storming is just so chaotic.

That was such a shameful moment - it was the beginning of the end
However, nationally it's grown much worse since then
Alabama have had field stormings for all their road losses over the last few years

To be fair, FSU-Bama had quite a bit of buildup from the FSU side of things. The 2023 snub was very much fresh in their minds, and after such a horrific 2024 season, beating the team they got snubbed for to open the season was cathartic.

Alabama hasn't stormed the field because there are 250 cops with dogs just waiting for the first motherfricker to jump down and get made an example of.

Selfies and TikTok videos motivate the student section.

It used to be very rare and organic, reserved for huge upsets or miracle finishes.
You used to see it maybe once or twice a whole season.
Social media changed that. Everyone wants to rush the field to get a little video for TikTok or Instagram or whatever.
You now see it 3 or 4 times every Saturday.

Notre Dame's one of the great programs in history and they stormed their field a bunch during their golden age years, most notably Catholics vs Convicts 1988 and the 1993 FSU game, back then it almost epitomized the quintessential college football fan experience. Maybe we're all looking too deep into it.
Bama not storming the field at BDS is kind of a new thing that's been around but really didn't gain notoriety until the Saban Dynasty years
