I also think it's more challenging these days to be liked or loved by the majority of Americans. It's a very polarizing time.

Who doesn't like Giannis?
Who doesn't like Lillard?
Who doesn't like Tatum?
Who doesn't like Embiid, other than Ben Simmons?
Who doesn't like Jokic?
Who doesn't like Morant?
Who doesn't like Luka?
Who doesn't like Zion?

It's not that challenging. Be good at what you do, don't be a bitch, and avoid talking about divisive things that you know half the country will love and the other half will hate. There's a big difference between talking about "change" in regards to race in a respectful and thoughtful manor, and spouting off misinformation and taking a picture like a dumbass wearing a hoodie in honor of a criminal, or "hands up don't shoot".

Now a lot of those guys might not be liked by opposing fanbases that recently played a playoff series against them, but all of those guys are pretty universally liked and respected by all. You're not going to hear someone say "frick that bitch, I cant stand his arse".

This was egregiously bad. He has not apologized for this either, and he knew exactly what he was doing. He is a piece of warmed over dogshit as a human being.

He's also the most physically gifted athlete I've ever seen, and I appreciate how much work he has put in to maximize those gifts. A lot of guys who are as gifted as he is don't work as hard as he does to stay good.

When he and Wade made fun of Dirk for being sick, then Dirk kicked their asses in the Finals. He never really gave me a reason to like him after that.

Because they are mad at him for being the best player of all time.

My first inclination of his hubris and spite was when he was asked “If you could dunk on anyone, who would it be?” His answer was our president at the time, George W. Bush.

That caught my attention as to the animosity he had toward those with whom he disagrees with.

LeBron is one of the greatest players in the history of basketball. I'd venture to guess that any reasonable basketball fan has LeBron as a minimum top 5 player, with most saying he's top 3 (I personally have him 2nd behind Jordan).

Lebron has done some things on and off the court that make him harder to like than some of the other all-time greats.

Both can be (and are) true.

Ding ding ding. This is me 100%. Ive always been a big Lakers fan, and a LeBron fan (bandwagon bullshite I know, lol). But by the time he joined the Lakers I’ve never been able to root for them just because Lebron became so unlikeable.

IMO, the media is really to blame for most of the reason why I dislike him. I don't need to know his opinions on anything outside of basketball. Realistically a random 30 year old person on the street has opinions as relevant to me as LeBron in regards to anything other than basketball.

ETA: this applies to all celebrities, not just LeBron. His opinions are just so bad that they stand out.

Not me, personally. I could give a shite.

It seems this was the tipping point for a lot of folks, though.
