What’s the most difficult defensive position in pro sports?

I know technically a pitcher is a defensive player but let’s leave them out because they are more of a proactive defenseman.
I’m watching the SCP and I don’t know how goalies can see that puck. Just seems so damn hard.

Cornerback, IMO.
You have to be an elite athlete, and even good ones get beat. Mentally you have to able to move on immediately. There's nowhere to hide.

I gotta go with NHL goalie as well. I remember reading something where they lose a lot of body weight over the course of a game. Then there's just the fast nature and unpredictability of the sport, your reflexes have to be ridiculous, combined with absurd skating ability and balance.

the published lists usually have goalie( hockey) /keeper ( soccer) and catcher as the most difficult.
But the ones that mention the mental aspect list catcher
Football Corner doest even make mosts top 10 lists

Team captain in curling. Making sure the beer cooler stays full is extremely challenging

Cornerback, catcher, and hockey / soccer goalies are the obvious answers.
But I would say that being a true 3 down LBer in today’s NFL would be very difficult. Today’s NFL is all about mismatches and exploiting them. And a LBer on a slot WR, RB out the backfield, and even some TEs are mismatches they are typically in favor of the offense. This is why there are so few true great 3 down LBers in today’s NFL.
Also think it would be very difficult to be a good defensive PG in the NBA due to the rules and refs. And there are so many good PGs in the NBA, you’re going against a very good player almost every night.

True, jokingly called the tools of ignorance, but a couple years ago 9 of the 30 managers were former catchers.
