Just from an observational standpoint: It looks to have the lowest stadium capacity turnout percentages on average amongst the Big 4 American Pro Sports leagues. Granted, the season is way more stretched out than any other league.

Reduced capacity stadiums in some markets wouldn't be such a bad idea imo

Maybe ticket sales are still there?.. but, ole boy ain't showing up regularly.. it's depressing looking at all of the empty seats on television in many markets.

Anecdotal I know: MLB "water cooler banter" is seemingly low

I guess the media is propping it up. There ain't no telling how many people have a baseball package on their tv subscription that never actually watch baseball.

*ducks*

They play 81 home games in half empty stadiums and the tickets are still somehow expensive

2/3’s of the league averages 25k a night

Before parking, merch and concessions

They are raking in money.

Yet another thread y someone who makes an observation on something he knows nothing about because he’s not interested in the sport. MLB is bringing in big bucks way more than other sports which is why their players have the biggest contracts.

Op probably also thinks college football is dieing because he doesn’t follow it as closely or his team is losing a few more games.

National viewership up and in game attendance up

quote:

After a few years out of the limelight, baseball is making a comeback. Viewership is up in a major way across the sport, with national games seeing as much as a 44 percent increase in viewers, according to Front Office Sports.

quote:

In-game attendance is reportedly up roughly 3 percent on the season, per FOS. That figure could increase in the coming weeks, as weather improves in the East and Midwest.

It’s turned into soccer. You must be one to appreciate all aspects of the game to enjoy it enough to pay ,get in car and go watching live.. The high points offensively are so few and far between now the attention span of the younger fans aren’t compatible. It’s truly dying.

I don't know how 2/3 of the teams have a fan base left at all. The Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox will buy every big free agent. The playing feild is not level. Why would anyone be a die hard Colorado Rockies or Pittsburgh Pirates fan?

Because not everyone in the world is a front running fair weathered fan like the average Tigerdroppings t-shirt wearing LSU fan

And one of the teams mentioned (Pittsburgh) is one of the oldest. The same can be said about the White Sox, Tigers, etc. The roots go very deep for a lot of people, generations of fans in a family.

The rise of travel ball has helped, as now attending these games and posting about it has become an accepted part of the culture. Plus MLB hats are huge business in the urban community.

currently a handful of teams while the rest all suck. only 12 are over .500

Braves Dodgers Cubs Yankees Rays are the class of the MLB imo this year

Also the NL central being fun has all teams over .500 and all are playing good baseball but outside the cubs who are in it none are playing to the tier i mentioned above.

It’s supply and demand. If I want to go see the Dodgers and Braves this weekend, good seats will cost me close to 200 bucks a pop. If I wanted to see the Braves play the Angels in Anaheim a few weeks ago I could have gotten in for $8
