Had another dude tell me he had an offer to play football at Oklahoma State when he didn't even play

My 5'-11" brother n law still to this day said he could DUNK a basketball in HS and could get his elbow in the rim

Not the dumbest I've ever heard but one that i havent seen mentioned and one that is a little more possible.

My brother in law claims that he could beat a pro golfer on at least one hole if they played 18. At the time he was about a 4-5 handicap. I say maybe. There is a decent chance to get one hole.

Technically accurate.

This is one that sounds very plausible.

Not dumb at all, IMO.

Sure, in the same way that "It's all in how you swing the bat/club/etc." is technically accurate.

Regarding tennis it's actually not that speculative. There's a Universal Trnnis Rating (UTR) that is extremely accurate. It's on a 16.5 scale. Djokovic is a 16.25 and Serena is s 13.25 FYI. I've seen many boys high school players that are probably as low as 6 or 7 tbh. D1 men's players are in the 11 to 14 range. I believe that the top 20 or so WTA players would beat most D1 men.

That would put the tennis closer in male-female skill gap than most other sports, which may explain why women's tennis is genuinely marketable on its own.

Compared to say, the WNBA where it looks like more than a handful of HS boys basketball players could make the squad.

If he’s a 4-5 handicap, he’d probably beat a tour pro on a single hole plenty of times. All that requires is a tour pro making a bogey and him making a par. A true 4-5 handicap is making par on most holes. Tour pros aren’t playing bogey-free rounds every time they go out. Hell, go watch the barstool golf guys play tour pros on their YouTube channel. Those guys are prob 8-10 handicap golfers and have no problem beating tour pros on random holes.

Hitting major league pitching has to be the hardest thing to do in sports.

Yeah I’ve heard so many people in high level sports say putting a pitch in play vs MLB pitching is way tougher than what they do

I had a friend in high school that was a local basketball star. Great player and played college at Austin Peay and played overseas for years.
He said back in the day he could beat Jordan one-on-one. He really believed he could do it. This was about 89-90, so Jordan was a huge star, but not yet the legend he would become. Even so, we all told him he was legit insane.

I used to think that if I got 500 plate appearances in MLB that I could luck into like 4 hits. I feel like that was pretty dumb.

I don't think I would even luck into 4 foul balls.

I might be able to luck into 4 HBP

I had a friend swear that if he could play golf regularly, he would make the PGA Tour. We still laugh at him for believing that bs
