MOST baseball players, outside of MOST pitchers, are incredibly athletic.

You've met all of them? That's impressive.

I don't see why endurance is discounted as an athletic trait.

I also don't understand why a pro league hasn't developed for lacrosse already. If soccer can grow to the size it has in the last twenty years, then so can lacrosse (on the professional level). The same goes for rugby. The difference between lacrosse and both rugby and soccer is that the latter two are tapping into international markets, while lacrosse has no such market, for the most part. The large international market is why I think soccer has succeeded as a professional league in America while rugby hasn't, though perhaps I'm oversimplifying things.

Lacrosse is still really small, in the grand scheme of things. And as we've seen with soccer, there isn't all that much crossover in regards to participation and watching on TV.

Plus, like you said, pro soccer has existed for over 150 years around the world. Hell, there was pro soccer in the US in the early 1900s. There really has never been a widespread professional lacrosse league to model after.

sorry, most college and pro baseball players are incredibly athletic...you don't make it to that level without being incredibly athletic...why am I even arguing this?

And I'd wager that a great deal of that is its newness. But 18 year olds have grown up in an age where there always has been professional soccer in America. Developing a TV audience requires generational fandom among other things.

How is it the same doesn't hold true for college lacrosse players?

They might be. But it's not required, if you have the right skill set.

Because you're stubborn and apparently too stupid to comprehend what I'm saying.

I played through high school and had D2 offers as well as D2 offers for soccer.

I NEVER said lacrosse players weren't incredibly athletic...you idiots...

I simply said that lacrosse players aren't 10x more athletic than baseball players...it's a dumb statement that someone made...I contested it and now the lacrosse fairies are in a tizzy...

Maybe we should expand the argument about lacrosse requiring more skill to play at the higher levels, which it clearly does. Many more individual and team dimensions than running between 4 bags, catching and throwing (with your hand).

Haha I'm not a lacrosse fan and it's a fairly stupid statement. Cross-sport discussions of athleticism are always pretty horrible because it's so difficult to compare what athleticism is when most can't agree upon a common definition.

It seems to me like there's a clear divide in this thread based on whether posters have ever seen lacrosse played well or not. That has a lot to do with where people are from.

Sounds like chicken got rejected by the lacrosse team, or a former GF was taken by lacrosse player.

there are two professional leagues. MLL for outside, NLL for inside/box lacrosse.

Is it your contention then that lacrosse requires more skill than baseball?

I think what I've learned from this thread is that the skill vs athleticism thing is something that soccer fans have a much better grasp on than non soccer fans. Seems some people don't understand or recognize the difference.
