Cowboys and Texans only play once every four years in the regular season. Rockets and Mavs have rarely competed at the top of the Western Conference at the same time. Astros-Rangers has had a couple of good finishes in the 11 years they've been in the same division - 2015 and last year. Astros sucked when the Rangers were good, then the Rangers sucked when the Astros were good. A's were probably a bigger thorn to both before their collapse.

The in-state rivalry between the two cities bleeds over into sports, but sports isn’t the genesis of the rivalry.

This past MLB season is fresh on everyone’s mind, but it’s the first time both the Rangers and Astros have been contenders in the same season. However, it was a legitimate rivalry even before 2023.

The Spurs are probably a bigger rival to both the Rockets and Mavs.

Only Green Bay isn’t part of the Milwaukee metro.

Houston/Dallas

Underrated but Texans fans like seeing Cowboys lose more than they care about Houston winning.

Astros and Rangers have been fairly heated since they were put in the same division.

Basketball is a bit of an afterthought since they’ve both been in the Spurs shadow most of the last 20 years but in the Hardin/Dirk years it was pretty salty.

I’m more of San Antonio guy but they have a fairly healthy rivalry outside of sports as cities.

ETA: I see this was already covered a bit.

West Monroe/Monroe

Cut to the chase, it is actually West Monroe vs Neville here. No other school in Monroe gets WM as riled up as Neville does.

Blackhawks-Red Wings not much of a thing, though, because they're in different conferences.

Original Six and they used to be in the Norris Division.

There’s a certain segment of the population that makes it a thing but most folks in Atlanta couldn’t care less. I hated Sean Payton and would melt from time to time regarding his antics but it has nothing to do with New Orleans

Only in MLS are they in the same conference. Sure, they played in the World Series in ‘85, but outside of that it’s one sided.

Does not matter that the Celtics and Lakers are in different conferences. The fan bases truly HATE the other team.

Finally somebody mentions two fanbases that truly hate each other and have a more better rivalry than NY/Boston.

Celtics Fan's started chanting " BEAT L.A" to their hated rival 76ers when they beat the Celtics in the 1982 ECF. That's how much they hated LA.

What about the other sports? Pats/Rams and Sox/Dodgers played for titles but I don't think there's any real lasting bad blood between them, nor are Bruins/Kings a rivalry. That's really only specific to the NBA and not really city vs city.

NY/Boston and NY/Philly were the first ones that came to my mind

No.

New Orleans fans are obsessed with Atlanta. In fact, they are so obsessed with Atlanta they call it a shithole while they all live in Louisiana

Breaking News: Atlanta does not give a frick about shitty New Orleans like you think we do.

It’s such a shithole of a place that we have better things to do then waste our time worrying about that dump - Atlanta is a rich, thriving metro while New Orleans is a declining poor shithole.

Ummmm, New Orleans and Atlanta is strictly football hate

As a Pels fan I could care less about the Hawks.

There are also quite a few folks in Louisiana and Mississippi that are Braves fans and Saints fans

New York and Philly come mind
St Louis and Chicago - Cubs/Cards Blues/Blackhawks
New York and Boston
