This is an argument FOR it being more difficult to make it as a pro golfer.
Golf is the only sport where people aren’t basically ruled out of becoming a professional athlete at birth due to genetics. There’s only so many people with lifelong training who will ever be able to run a 4.5. Only so many people who will ever be 6’8”. Etc.
The pool of people to compete against in golf is much larger.

He threw a softball like a 5 year old child so underhanded was pretty much his limit. A few months later at a work picnic, someone had a football and he grabbed it and and threw a 30 yard Elway-like rope. I still don't get it 30 years later
I've tried watching some "athletes" try to throw a baseball.

I’m just here to laugh at the naive answers.

If you took the entirety of the mlb, put them in a Time Machine and devoted them to golf from childhood, you would end up with multiple pga players
If you took the entirety of the nfl, put them in a Time Machine and devoted them to golf from childhood, you would have multiple pga players
If you took the entirety of the pga tour, put them in a Time Machine and devoted them to football from childhood, you may get a deep snapper
Same for pga tour and baseball
Golf is EXTREMELY HARD, but the “best chance” the average child has of being a pro athlete is in golf.

More people the second they are born have a 0.0% chance to be a pro in football. That quite literally makes it harder

I’m not arguing against this. Essentially I am saying that for current professional athletes: football, basketball, baseball players… they were already ahead of 99% of the general population at birth due to genetics and the athletic requirements of those sports.
If they all played golf growing up, none of the physical advantages they had to start above 99% of the population apply in golf. So I disagree with your earlier post that there would definitely be multiple PGA players from those groups if they chose golf growing up. There might be some, or there very well could be zero.

Not much of a golfer are you…

I was thinking about this relative to the thread about golf being the toughest sport - which I don't think is necessarily true,
There are for sure some sports where a rare genetic gift is a prerequisite - being able to run sub 4.5 in football; being 6'9 in basketball.
That genetic gifting isn't as big a requirement in golf, or (I think) in baseball.
And I believe being a competitive pro baseball player is more difficult than being a professional golfer.
Ted Williams - one of the best pure, disciplined hitters ever - could have played professional golf in my opinion

I don’t think y’all realize how good your players are

The elements effect golf more than any other sport.

Maybe not, but I bet it helps to be born without a sciatic nerve, to be putting that much torque on your lower back all day almost every day.
