What an 8 Team Playoff would look like using 12/03 CFP Ranking

Obviously, the final Top 8 after this weekend will look different than this Top 8, but even just using just this week’s ranking, who wouldn't want to see this playoff bracket?

More teams get a chance to have to win it on the field, not in the committee room, and that’s a plus to me.

There are some great match ups here right now, and even though changes will happen, this week's 8 team bracket is still an improvement over the 4 team bracket.

Having the 1st round games at the home stadiums of the Top 4 is a big reward for making the Top 4.

After next weekend, this bracket will be the 5 Power 5 conference champs and 3 at large teams, which is what many really want to see.

For those who wonder what a 16 team bracket would look like using this week’s CFP rankings, here it is:

8 games and all of them are fresh with no repeats to games this year, although some have met in years past

It's Groundhog Day until you finally win it.

That's a cute exercise but I bet the committees rankings would be different if that's how things were decided.

Can't help but notice that if you rearranged the seeds slightly so conference teams played each other you'd get 3 of these 4 quarterfinal games this weekend. OSU/Wisconsin, LSU/Georgia, Oklahoma/Baylor. And then the cripple fight conference champs get to play each other in the other one.

I don't know if this is an argument for or against expansion

No, this is stupid. Going to a playoff was a stretch, but there is usually a clear tier 1 of CFB each year and it’s usually 2-3 teams like OSU/Ohio State/Clemson this year.

I tend to agree.

The only reason I would want an 8-16 team playoff is because it would likely further expose the massive gulf between the SEC and other conferences.

And considering SEC pride isn't something I consistently care about, I'm ok with 4

I honestly like the on-campus game idea. But, schools will never go with it because of how long it takes to prepare for a home game, especially one during the holidays. Students would likely be gone during the break, so it wouldn't be the same.

But there are a million bowl games that could be ready to go for a 8-team or 16-team playoff. Make it happen. The regular season is already water down now, so might as well make a few weekends in December/January very exciting.

So in an eight team playoff, the championship game would be LSU vs Georgia.

I bet you thought the undefeated Patriots were going to destroy the Giants.

How is that any different from the NFL playoffs?

I'd love to knock off from work the whole month of Dec and hunt/watch that 16 team playoff. Start first weekend of Dec and have champ game on 1/1

As many times as it takes for OSU to remain #1

It would be a different top 8 - they'd give the gumps a mulligan got sure.

If it should be expanded, either make it 6 or 10.

Six: all five P5 champs plus highest ranked G5 champ.

Ten: all ten D1 conference champs.

Sorry Notre Dame, get with the times.

While I agree that very rarely is even #5 good enough to pose a threat in the playoffs- this is more football which I don't think is stupid. Imagine a first round playoff game in Death Valley on December 21st against Notre Dame (or December 14, CCG might get the axe if they ever expanded to 16). I mean frick me, it would be amazing

The real kicker would be if teams from down here had to travel up north to play. Florida going to Wisconsin to play in December. I don't think they've played a non conference road game out of the state since the Kennedy administration. Talk about jumping right into the deep end.

This is dumb as shite. Notre Dame plays a tougher schedule than every G5 team in the country every year. Auto bids are dumb because conferences aren't equal, and schedules within conferences aren't equal
