We all agree there is targeting where they play goes head hunting.

However, a football play shouldnt result in ejection. I don't care which team you play for. Just call it a personal foul penalty and play on.

So battle can keep trying to knock people out the game. Yeah that makes sense.

Generally agree but if you're talking about the one just now in the Bama game, that was deserving.

I’d be in favor of it being like technical fouls, rack up enough and you get suspended or ejected. One and you’re out of the game is ridiculous

These kids have grown up with the rule just about. Tackle like that in a rugby game and other team beats the shite out of you.

In some situations sure. Like when a player is going to the ground and it’s just a bang bang play where the defender didn’t hVe time to readjust and avoid hitting the runner in the head.

On that play here with Battle? Nah, we should keep ejecting guys for those plays

i would appreciate a tiered penalty that is based on the disgression of the officials using the context of the play

there are times where there is literally nothing a defender can do in the situation and gets tossed anyway. i would love if we remove the ejection portion of the penalty for that and save them for head hunting safeties crushing a defenseless receiver over the middle

There needs to be two different penalties for targeting. One that results in ejection, one less severe that doesn’t.

Examples:

The Battle one you’re whining about results in ejection.

The Devin White one from a few years ago doesn’t.

The refs already can’t do their job, having them look for context or intent seems unlikely

Maybe just a personal foul, how it is now. Where you get the penalty and not ejected. Imagine if this happened to mac or devonta. Different tune I’m sure.

I agree that system would be great in theory but I don’t have faith in them to do something that applies common sense

I don't disagree, but the defender lead with the crown of his helmet and hit the receiver clear in the head with it.

Even under a tiered system, he still gets ejected there.

Make a penalty box.
Targeting is play with 10 until end of quarter.

absolutely. more often than not wed still get undeserved ejections. but i do believe wed get less which id accept at this point cause i dont think completely getting rid of the ejection is the right call

I 100% agree. I was a college WR, there is a huge difference in head hunting and the play like last week and Battle tonight.

If a DB lines a WR up and jars the ball loose within a step of touching the ball then that’s a great read and play by that defensive player. With that being said, launching into a players head and neck region is something different.

What I mean by launching is no attempt to wrap up. Then trying to head hunt. Battle didn’t launch into that hit. No way should it be an ejection.

That Bama guy should have been ejected. He lowered the crown of his helmet right underneath that guy's jaw.

But I agree there should be two levels of targeting in general. Not every targeting play should result in an ejection.

they did this at first and the number of instances did not go down. DQs got the players attention and the number went down.

I like the NFHS rule has to be flagrant for a DQ, which adds another judgement call. But in HS the 15 yard penalty has reduced the number of those types of hits.

I agree with the premise.

Battle’s penalty last night was egregious and should result in an ejection.

But there is a difference in what he did and a defensive player making a tackle on a ball carrier that is falling and the helmets make contact.

I would like to see something similar to the NBA's flagrant foul calls. Targeting 1 - 15 yard penalty, Targeting 2 - ejection. Now enforcing that is a whole other story.
