We need to discuss the CFL's version of the onside kick

CFL rules allow for “open-field kicks” at any time. The player who kicks the ball (or anyone level with or behind them, as those players would also be termed onside) can recover it after it goes at least one yard, as long as a series of conditions are met (the offensive line can’t be more than a yard down field, and the recovering player can’t interfere with an opponent trying to recover the ball). That sets up a new set of downs if the ball was kicked from behind the line of scrimmage and crossed the line of scrimmage.

How is this not constantly abused? fricking with the downs like that makes it a different game.

Its a much different game
12 players
No illegal motion for running fwd
3 downs
Rouge
110 yard field
Deep end zones
No one was really using it until Montreal started. It does keep the dbs from playing back on long to goes.

I believe the kicking team gets one point for a touchback.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen

Its like they wanted to make it more like rugby, but only a little bit.

The CFL used to have an import rule which limited the number of Americans allowed on rosters. The idea was to make sure that the Canadian version did not become dominated by American players. Last time I looked, the average CFL salary was about $85,000, with star players making more.

I like this.
Someone will eventually get totally fricking blown up and I will like that even more

It would be much better if the minimum was 5 or 10 yards. The foot tap is dumb.
