As opposed to just standing still with the ball for half an offensive possession with only 1 person making a move LINK

Somehow spacing the floor and jacking 3’s with absolute shite defense is supposedly superior skill.

Shooting, passing, and movement are skills. All are at all time highs.

Why is playing smarter such an insult to your delicate sensibilities?

Wait you're saying eliminating illegal defense and allowing partial zones made defense harder? How? That makes negative sense.

These goofs don’t even know what they are saying half the time at this point. Jordan obviously would have been incredible in any era but the king of isolation being able to absolutely cook people with zero help defenders due to the rules at that time benefitted him more than anyone of that era.

Here’s some .gifs with the ball handler in nearly the exact same situations for those who cannot understand what I am referring to

I'd like to see the correlation bt people who think Jordan played against plumbers and people who think Babe Ruth is the goat

Those were also 2 of the most advanced offenses in the NBA at that time, as they were pre Dantoni. Only Don Nelson tried anything more imaginative than those 2 systems.

But yeah since that help defender could do anything in the illegal defense era the same but not help, clearly it is easier on Lebron

As if you could plant your arse in the lane on defense at all with the illegal defense rule

Shooting is improved in that any appearance of contact is a foul, so there are way more open shots. Metrics actually say that 3 shooting is way up, but midrange shooting is all time poor. Is that really skill, or just specialization ? As far as movement, that is just funny. You have guys whose entire role is to stand in the corner to catch and shoot.

Smarter? They are playing the way league rules have encouraged them to. The game evolved. Sorry you get your arse chapped by the fact that modern game is boring.

Now do free throws

As opposed to 80% of the offense standing around?

Nothing prevented offense like this in the 90s

Bad coaching/strategy is why they were limited.

No rule change (since the 80s) has shifted the offensive or defensive balance more than the partial zones giving defenses huge advantages.

Slow flow why do you love arguing in every thread? I’ve never seen such a staunch contrarian in all of my days.

Opposed to 4 guys watching one guy in isolation? I mean I get the whole today’s era sucks thing a lot of people have, but let’s not ignore obvious things to prop that argument up. Movement is most definitely at an all time high across the league.

The fact that teams are seriously considering using a draft pick to get Bronny James just to court Lebron tells me all I need to know about “today’s NBA”.

Are you saying that 90s NBA wouldn’t do the same to get Jordan on their team?

90s Jordan <> 2024 Lebron.

If Wizards Jordan played in the 90s, then no, I don’t think any of those teams would do that.

EDIT: Plus, I don’t even think this is something Jordan would want. The dude was all about winning and wouldn’t want to play with a freshman 6th man from a mediocre college team even if it was his son.

Ok, let’s just pretend that there is no iso in the modern game All these guys putting up 70 spots are a result of excellent team play and movement. Guys dribbling just past half court and launching logo threes are a beautiful kaleidoscope of team play. Cool.
