and I definitely don't think I'm smarter than everyone here
pride is simply mad that I don't think players opting out this year is evidence that we are witnessing the collapse of CFB
and he somehow projecting that onto this story, which I've called a dumb PR stunt from the beginning

Maybe, maybe not. We weren't at practice so we can't say. Maybe Mason wasn't willing to risk losing his punter to injury and wanted a person just for kicker.
I'm CERTAIN the punter (or damn near any other player on the team) could have dinked the ball 20 yards towards the sideline. Something that was no doubt pre-planned in an effort to avoid a return and any possibility of something like this happening:
As for the Vandy players, I'm sure they are furious.
First, they are winless. Which in and of itself is frustrating enough.
Second, this publicity stunt was forced upon them which, outside of the media, is being laughed at.
Third, even though he complied with the stunt, the HC who recruited all of the players was fired the next day
Fourth, the virtue signaling was turned up to 11 when a person who likely none of these players knew, or knew well, and who had just joined the team 4 days prior felt it incumbent upon her to stand up and address the team during halftime to call them out. NO kickers do that. Let alone one who had been on the team 4 days and had done literally nothing of note with respect to the team.
Fifth, they have to listen to the media hailing her as a "hero" for literally doing nothing more than executing an OBJECTIVELY terrible kick.

Well when your coaches stop trying to win the game, it's tough to keep your competitive edge.
Not to mention her condescending, embarrassing half time speech.
I've been on teams were a player got to start b/c of who their parents were. It never made any of us stop trying.
I doubt they quit trying after the half anyway. They gave up one less point than in the first half. If you are going to completely roll over it's going to be much worse than that.

can the SEC dump vandy and pick up memphis instead?
Vandy is a very strong member of the SEC. They suck at football, but they are a central Southeastern hub/market in an amazing city filled with other school SEC grads, have great baseball, historically strong basketball, good golf and other non-revenue sports, and keep the SEC GPA up.
Not to mention their status as a private school I believe helps shield the conference from a FOIA standpoint. At least to some degree. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

Any player that has a quitter mentality like that is a loser and deserves to get their arse kicked on the field anyway.
Eh, if my coach (or whoever green lit the girl starting) sent the message that they care more about making a political message than doing the best we can to win the game, then exactly why would I be motivated to play hard for said coach? They may suck, but those kids still want to put the best product they can on the field to win. It's been a season's worth of games since they last won. They had been very competitive the past few games leading up to Saturday. It would probably make those kids' season to win just one game.
....And then their coach trots out a girl who can't kick? If I'm a player on the team, that sends me the message that my coaches have so little faith in us that they aren't going to try to win anymore this season and will, instead, see what publicity they can milk out of that stunt. It doesn't make someone a quitter for not wanting to participate in a game where the people in charge are turning it into a circus on purpose.

Now imagine that clip with the girl kicker, knowing what we know about Guice.

That's usually given the reason given. If so I'd be all for booting Vandy and bring in SMU.
They'll cheat like hell to be a top tier team and watching the hoity toity Park Cities crowd shitting themselves over SEC fans invading University Park would be fun.
Plus they can have a frat bro Olympics with Ole Miss every year. Events include a contest to see who can wear the most popped collar shirts at once, who can have the biggest tailgate with the fewest students who go to the game, and Tennessee can guest judge the butt chugging contest.

Would've seen playing time this year for us I think.
As weak as the defensive back play was this year? Without a doubt...
He may even have been returning kicks...
Dude is a baller...

That causes plenty of kids to leave those teams and play elsewhere where playing time is earned, not given. I've been a part of teams like that too when I was younger. Those teams never won shite because of all the resentment on the team for coaches doing stuff like just like that. Playing favorites and using your team for things other than trying to win is never good for team morale. This isn't complicated

Any player who quits trying is a quitter. Sorry. That's just how it is. Your reasons for quitting don't matter.

Here is what the Rivals' National Board is saying:
Vandy is not happy with this guy...
quote:
According to our rivals reporter the Vandy rivals reporter is saying the players are pissed she is playing this week. Many have quit yesterday and today calling it a publicity stunt and the game this weekend is in question. The interim coach is saying she is playing regardless if they have better kickers back on the team that have been there all year. Could get interesting.
Vandy is not happy with this guy...

Haha, and now apparently Vanderbilt is trying to yank the rivals reporter credentials for going public with this.

What if they are quitting because their teammates they have sweat and bled with are clearly and objectively better than this girl and are losing their jobs to her for a publicity stunt?

now, multiple players are apparently going to be opting out because of it

You don't think a dude should be upset because he's losing playing time to a girl who isn't 10% as good as he is?
