I'm an idiot for thinking that refs shouldn't be able to get physical with players? His role is to call a game. His job is not to grab a jersey and/or shove a player.

I wish. We're stuck with a D3 level coach for the next three years. Will be the end of USC because recruiting is already plummetting

Obviously. You don't do that but the ref was trying throw him around when he was clearly away from the fray.. Should've called him down and let the penalty be the end of it

Nope, nope, nope. Total BS of a rule that a ref can put their hands on a player.
Now obviously if he swung and knocked the ref out, ok that's overboard.
But based on what i just watched, that should be nocpenalty, no discipline after the game for the player. And the ref should either be disciplined or there absolutely needs to be a rule regarding refs not being allowed to grab a player, much less tug on his jersey like that.
I don't blame the player in the least in that moment.

Are you serious? It doesn't fricking matter what the ref does

One of the most unsportsmanlike plays of all time.

I guess so.
Refs tend to pull players away from possible escalating situations all the time.... Not the same as throwing hands at them in retaliation.. Not sure about the ref shoving.. I only saw him pulling him away.

i don't think a flag was thrown for the punch while he was on the ground ... the ref was trying to keep him in the game ...
