USC and UCLA first held discussions about ditching the Pac-12 Conference and defecting to the Big Ten last summer, I’m told.

Given that USC and UCLA will be getting "equal revenue sharing" in the B1G, the real problem was the disastrous TV contract that the powers that be negotiated. The Contract is so far behind the SEC and B1G they would have left anyway. It's just a poorly run league, which always made them ripe for poaching.

That’s not the PAC-12’s fault.

the fact that the LA market is single driver for the pac 12 media value actually kinda is the pac 12 fault

Yea, this doesn’t seem like a very “equality” or “equity” oriented view.

The old joke was UCLA stood for Common Little Adults...meaning not exceptional...unlike USC. Benign putdown.

Then it became UCLA, Communist Little Asia.

There was a trend in the 90s when Chinese nationals had loads of dough to pay for American Universities and they picked what was advertised....the media market of the world...USC and UCLA.

College football isn’t about tradition and student moral? You mean it’s really all about money?

to be fair, the B1G has similar equal revenue sharing rules. Michigan/OSU get the same revenue split compared with illinois and purdue but, the B1G brings in a TON more money, so each member's share is much larger

SEC does too.

I think Big 12 was the only one not to do equal and Texas left anyways. Like someone else said the problem was the PAC 12’s shitty contract

Yep. There was a court ruling back in the early 80's against the NCAA and how they handled TV broadcasts. At the time the NCAA basically capped how many times a team could be on TV and at least on the broadcast network end, regional broadcasts. Schools like Oklahoma and a few others bitched about it. The court ruling basically said to the NCAA they could not handcuff the schools and conferences like that.

After that the flood gates began to open and conferences stated making deals with networks. Then networks from a marketing standpoint started pushing the whole " let's really determine who is #1 on the field" Once you broke the bowl system with the advent of the BCS and the privatizing of the Athletic Department....led by LSU, this was inevitable....unfortunately

Norther schools have their own stadiums; LA schools have to rent venues from local cities.

Sure their current deal isn't great compared to the Big 10 and SEC but I don't understand why they weren't willing to wait to see what their upcoming deal was going to be like in '24. The #1 problem for them has been getting the Pac12N out to consumers and it seems like it would have been an obvious move to kill the regional networks and sell half their main network to whoever their partnered with for their new TV deal. W/Amazon wanting to get into live sports and CBS/Viacom needing an SEC replacement to not even try to see what they could get from a new broadcaster is strange.

So are they not getting equal revenue share in the Big10? Those costs they mentioned aren't going to go down magically and new they're flying the water polo team to Iowa and PA every week.

Also Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco arrant exactly cheap places to live either.

Seriously being ironic?

Tons of foreign Asians go to UCLA and don't know what a football is, they're there for one of the best Universities in the nation. They're there to study. UCLA isn't a Pom Pom sports school like Alabama. But does still excel at sports across the board.

Oregon's viewership is comparable to TCU and maybe you can guess what kind of students attend that college.

What is Oregon without Nike anyways? Definitely nowhere near what it is today.

Yeah. We got beat by a bunch of bucktoothed, nearsighted, and skinny Asians last year in football.

The acronym unofficially stands for University of Caucasians Lost among Asians.
