Based on the report, they found some witnesses credible than others. and stated so in the report A very interesting report, which lends itself to appeal. With SC appealing, I think something similar to OU could occur. That is-- a reduction to one year of post season ban. Also, with that and the FB team getting hit harder than hoops, plus the major FB findings centering on one person and coach, LOIC could also be dismissed in an appeal. I think at the least, an appeal wil result in at least some lessening of panalties. With that being said a NC this season is in order. The appeal will hold off penalties until it is heard.
For the recruiting concerns, many of the big names have concated SC and stated they''re still comiing. Whether or not they do remains tio be seen.

as long as the NCAA took to gather its finding and render a judgement and punishment...I high doubt they will lessen anything...nothing would surprise me with them though but I again I highly doubt an appeal will help but USC has no choice but to appeal...

Cecil Hurt said something really interesting on Finebaum today.
He mentioned that the NCAA likes to use cases to set precedent on big issues, kind of like the Supreme Court.
He mentioned the Alabama/Means case as the one where they put the hammer on rogue boosters and bagmen.
He said this USC case was their "statement" and setting of precedent on player agents and marketers, etc.
The NCAA may have more than one case or multiple universities that have similar infractions, but that they pick a high profile program to send a message to other member institutions.
While it seems like a nice idea in theory, the practice of it is where cries of unequal treatment and unfairness come from.

True. Did you read the report? I just got home. Post if a link to it has not been posted and I'll post it. he NCAA actually stated they found witness X more credible etc. Of course it is not a court of law. Yes, they have stated they will appeal, in so many words.
Oh well, here it is anyway for thos getting off work:
Full report

Why are you harping on this? Does this not happen every time 2 or more people give testimony, anywhere. It obviously MUST HAPPEN if people give conflicting testimony.

very true, which USC will likely, at least in part, use in its appeal

Hapring on it. It was one post. Of course they wil use that in an appeal. They'll use as much as possible.

Won't matter.
Alabama used the fact that 5 other schools gave Albert Means money and they weren't even investigated, despite the fact that the NCAA had evidence of it.
Our appeal was denied.

Good they deserve it. No one wil want to play for USC in the next 2 years now.

hoops was already hit hard
they self investigated
they self reported
they self punished
the football program....well, did the exact opposite
the NCAA's precedent in this isn't about agents. the NCAA said, "cooperate or risk getting fricked in the arse"

quote:Geez, it never stops with you. How do the meds taste at the psycho ward? The NCAA specifically put in the report they almost made the punishment worse, and you think they are going to LIFT part of the punishment? You're absolutely crazy. If USC appeals, hell, the NCAA might make this worse.

Honestly seems like a stupid move if they do appeal. Esp. in light of the report saying they considered harsher punishment.
Posted on 6/10/10 at 9:15 pm to LSUTANGERINE
No, we're saying the appeal will lose.
