The first full-time director of sports medicine and science for USA Gymnastics is out after a day on the job.

The embattled organization announced it had appointed Edward Nyman to the position effective Monday. Nyman's "employment will not continue due to a conflict of interest," the Indianapolis-based group said on Tuesday.
USA Gymnastics said it would immediately renew its search to find a candidate to replace Nyman.

His duties had entailed "developing and executing the strategy for providing athlete care services, as well as sports science guidance for athletes and coaches in all five competitive disciplines," according to USA Gymnastics.

The announcement comes as the organization keeps swirling in turmoil. Despite massive success from its athletes, USAG, the governing body for gymnastics in the United States, hasn't been able to keep a president for longer than nine months since the Larry Nassar abuse scandal erupted.

They immediately fired him after the backlash on twitter

He’s a guy. US Gymnastics fired him because people cried on Twitter because he is male. I’m not kidding, that is what happened.

And somehow, that won't be considered sexist

Strange times we live in.

Seems like this for sure, but what are they at least trying to say is the actual "conflict of interest?"

Every single time an organization caves to the social media lynch mob, they only grow stronger.

If people would just IGNORE them, this shite would stop.

I believe eventually we'll get to that point, but it's taking people forever to figure out that a bunch of random annonymous morons screaming on twitter is utterly meaningless.

We are quite literally getting to the point where all Men are considered rapists.

I would say this guy should sue for gender discrimination, but at this point isn't USA Gymnastics completely broke and in bankruptcy?

Well that's kind of unconstitutional, so I'm guessing the US Gymnastics team has a better reason than this or at least a better reason they're telling him so he doesn't sue

Jeez how hard is it to implement policy that no athlete ever receives private treatmwnt without a 3rd party of the opposite sex in the room?

This is basic common sense.

There are 72 genders now. Those treatment rooms gonna be hella-crowded.

two possibilities:

A) He's a dude and twitter fricked his life for no apparent reason other than he exists, which is what they claim to hate.

B) He asked "so when can I start banging one of the girls" as a joke and got fired immediately. I say this because he has that look in his eye like an inappropriate joke to break the tension might be a go-to of his.

I'm gonna tell myself it is "B" so I can continue pretending like our society isn't slowly falling apart.

Said the male lawyer. I didnt think any of those women abused by nassar were still in gymnastics, so their opinion while it should be heard, maybe not be the deciding factor in hiring a VERY well qualified candidate.
