Lol nobody is watching the super bowl on illegal streams where they can't even watch a play without it buffering. It was also on nbc. You don't have to have cable to get network tv.

We already know it was the most legally streamed event ever based on legal stream data. The actual viewership, including NBC's stream, was 106 million

Streams worked better than NFL sunday ticket for me during the year

CFB playoff ratings up. NBA ratings up. But NFL ratings decline is all because of cord cutting when it's on network tv

Eta: And i still watched and would still watch if players were openly supporting Isis. I'm jist not gonna come on here and act like they don't have a problem on their hands.

Why would you buy an antenna when you can press 3 buttons on your remote and have the stream up in seconds?

Because I always prefer OTA to streams when it comes to sports, the lag can be really annoying, and my $20 antenna consistently has a clearer picture than what I would otherwise.

Well sure, that doesn't mean everyone is going to do that though. I only know 3 people that cut the cord and none of those 3 bought antennas, doesn't mean they all do or don't but plenty don't.

And again, some of the best selling TV's over the last couple of years don't come with tuners to reduce cost so an antenna won't work.

Lot of factors in and around cord cutting/illegal streams.

College football ratings were drastically down on networks this year

10% on CBS (lowest in over a decade)
18% on ABC
3% on NBC
6% on ESPN

The only major provider that was up was Fox (up 23%), and that is in large part due to having more games

The playoffs were helped by moving to New Year's Day

I said playoff ratings which was on ESPN. Cord cutters don't get ESPN with an antenna. They do get NBC with one.

Nothing to do with the games being on New Year's Day this year instead of New Year's Eve.

No one does anything on New Year's Eve

Feel free to ignore the drastic drops across the board during the season though

Also feel free to look up the Nielsen's challenges with measuring OTA content

My favorite thing about this, is the NFL tards, who are still blaming cord cutting.

Hey dickjaws, cord cutting has NOTHING 2 do with People not watching the Super Bowl, it's on broadcast TV, you know, the free channels.

Playoffs had poor viewership, Superbowl was worst in past 9 years.

It's the CORD CUTTERS!!!!!!!!! MLB is dead, old man sport.

plenty of cord cutters do not have OTA channels due to them not wanting to deal with satellites

I'm not sure what's worse, the MSB circle jerk about the NFL ratings being down or the M/TV circle jerk about the Star Wars rottentomatoes score.

I see now. Like someone else said, the switch from NYE to NYD is not to be ignored. Hungover and on the couch means more viewers than out partying.

Personally, I think the ratings decline has little to do with kneeling/Trump/politics. The biggest problem they face is they've ruined the product with all the player safety & offensive rule changes.

But I also think that the chickens are finally coming home to roost on the NFL making their product a year round venture. With the hype around the combine, then the draft, and then endless coverage of training camps; I think the public is at it's NFL fatigue point. I think the kneeling/Kaep fiasco just gave some fans who were wavering or worn out a reason to tune out.

Let's do this right:

2015 CFB Final - 33,917,000 viewers - Highest ever on cable TV
2018 CFB Final - 28,443,000 viewers

Down 16.1% overall

2015 Super Bowl - 114,400,000 viewers - Highest ever on network TV
2018 Super Bowl - 103,400,000 viewers

Down 9.6% overall

His original point is completely wrong.
