Lol nobody is watching the super bowl on illegal streams where they can't even watch a play without it buffering. It was also on nbc. You don't have to have cable to get network tv.

I watched the sky sports coverage in 1080

better quality than my local NBC

Personally, I think the ratings decline has little to do with kneeling/Trump/politics. The biggest problem they face is they've ruined the product with all the player safety & offensive rule changes.

But I also think that the chickens are finally coming home to roost on the NFL making their product a year round venture. With the hype around the combine, then the draft, and then endless coverage of training camps; I think the public is at it's NFL fatigue point. I think the kneeling/Kaep fiasco just gave some fans who were wavering or worn out a reason to tune out.

I think this is spot on, and I think it's mostly been casual fans that have tuned out for these reasons.

At the end of the day the NFL is still the most watched sport and networks are still dishing out a lot of money for the rights to broadcast games. The franchise valuations continue to rise. The NFL is still fine in the short term.

It's crazy how all-in the Poliboard is going with this NFL shite just because Trump told them to do it.

Meanwhile, Trump is hosting Super Bowl parties at Mar-a-Lago.

Losing almost 8 million viewers is one of the largest, if not the largest drops in Super Bowl history.

They lost 7%, or 7,900,000 viewers this year. They lost 7,950,000 viewers between 1980 and 1981, which was a 10.4% drop.

They lost 8.1% between 1987 and 1988.

They lost 9.5% between 1989 and 1990. Hell, from 1986 to 1990, they lost 20% of their viewers.

They lost 7.3% between 1994 and 1995.

They lost 7.0% between 1998 and 1999.

Yeah, there are a lot of factors, but I'm just pointing out the drop in ratings between the 2015 and 2018 championship games.

2015 was Oregon/Ohio State, FWIW.

Why so defensive?

I said

Only 1981 rivals that. And the numbers aren't finalized yet, so by the end of the week, the drop in viewership could be over 8M. Which would be the largest drop off in actual numbers in the history of the game

Percentages are just that, a percent of. I'm talking actual numbers

Wow dude, talk about living in a bubble. Wanna know why those 7 million viewers weren't watching the Super Bowl on Jan 25th, 1981? Because the 52 American hostages were being returned from Iran, and it was MAJOR news story

It wasn't like everyone suddenly lost interest in the super bowl that year

At least pretend to be informed

So this year was the greatest drop off in the history of the Super Bowl by viewership, then

Well the 1981 SB wasn't all that great of a matchup anyway... you had the Raiders who were not the same Raiders of the 70's. And the upstart Eagles who had not had any real success since 1960....

My only point was total viewers lost. Hes the one that keeps going to % drop

Now that 1981 has been debunked as the largest drop ever, my point has been solidified

I think the craziest thing about the Super Bowl rating is that neither Boston nor Philly was the highest ranked NFL market. They were beat out by Buffalo

Why would anyone illegally stream a free broadcast TV program? Its effing free, and available on any TV. FOR FREE

That's just ignorant

You should be ashamed

You are ignorant. Plenty of people who cut cable do not have OTA antennas and stream through kodi and other sources.

You obviously aren't very familiar with the current climate surrounding TV today. I don't even have an antenna. I have a free cable box, but why bother? I can just pull up my laptop and find what I want within a few clicks, and at high quality to boot.
For the record, I'm not the only one who thinks that way.
Edit: free cable through an apartment thing, but again, why bother?

Damn, we're they released pn the other 5 drops too?

Also, they came home to the US that day, but they had been released for 5 days by then. That excuse is weak.
