Updated Super Bowl TV ratings: "tumbling 7% to lowest level since 2009"

LA Times
The 3% touted by others was only the initial metered markets, consisting of only the markets in the biggest cities. Which is not traditionally seen as patriotic areas. The 7% drop includes all households
Losing almost 8 million viewers is one of the largest, if not the largest drops in Super Bowl history.

according to Nielsen, a 7% decline from last year for TV's biggest annual event. But the 7% decline is likely to cause some concern for the league and its television partners.

The drop does not affect NBC financially in the short term as the advertisers who spent an average of $5 million for a 30-second commercial are not guaranteed a minimum audience. However, it could be detrimental to CBS when it sells ads for next year's game.

would insulate it from changing viewer habits and disgruntled core fans. But the 7% decline in viewership — close to the 10% drop during the regular season — suggests that was not the case.
The loss of viewers — which was only 3% in the big city markets measured by Nielsen — indicates that the NFL's troubles are more significant in the country's heartland.

This was literally in the article yesterday and discussed in the thread

Did we really need ANOTHER thread for this?
Nope, he just doesn't know how to read
He also left out the streaming numbers that were included in his article. I'm sure it wasn't intentional though

Still the 10th most watched program of all time.

At a time when TV viewership is down across the board, the Super Bowl still can draw a top-10 all-time audience.
Yes, by top-10 we mean No. 10, but that’s still a very strong performance for Eagles-Patriots, especially with NFL ratings and TV consumption down as a whole.
An average TV audience of 103.4 million watched the game, with another 2.02 million streaming the game via the NBC Sports app.
“With an all-time top-10 audience, the Super Bowl once again proved that it’s the most dominant and consistent property on television,” NBC Broadcasting & Sports Chairman Mark Lazarus said in a press release. “Super Bowl LII delivered for all of our partners, and provided us with the unique opportunity to give America a look ahead at the Olympic Winter Games, which begin live on NBC this Thursday night.”
The top-10 all-time TV programs consist almost exclusively of Super Bowls, with the M*A*S*H finale from 1983 coming in at No. 9.

And yet you were the very one arguing that fact with super bowl parties, etc
I was arguing that fact in regards to Philly and Boston.
Jesus Christ you're dense
Also, these numbers still don't include super bowl parties, DERP. Out of household comes Thursday

Well, if the other thread had corrected its title with the updated numbers . . . .
You do realize that your article is from yesterday at 2:10, right? Despite you saying that the numbers weren't out yet?

There's also 17 more million people in the US than there was just 8 years ago. The trends are worse than they appear for the NFL.

There's also 30 million cord cutters versus zero and a whole shite ton of illegal streams.

Lol nobody is watching the super bowl on illegal streams where they can't even watch a play without it buffering. It was also on nbc. You don't have to have cable to get network tv.

Why would you buy an antenna when you can press 3 buttons on your remote and have the stream up in seconds?
Some of the most popular TV's sold the last 2 years from Vizio don't include tuners and OTA antennas don't work.
