He’s going all in on the addiction angle, and has admitted the following in legal filings:

- 40 bets on Indiana football over the course of two years while a member of the team

- Used sports book accounts registered to a family member and friends to place bets

- Wagered approximately $90,000 over four years

quote:

"It became a habit for me to bet," Sorsby wrote in a statement to the NCAA. "My betting became a compulsion which made it virtually impossible to resist the constant notifications I received from betting apps. I lost complete control of my addiction. I now realize the apps controlled me and I did not control them."

I can just picture him in team meetings like:

"Wow I am feeling so tired today. Is anyone else feeling banged up, less than 100%?? Let's all share how we're doing"

I’ve seen it first hand with today’s young males. It’s clearly becoming a major issue that goes simply beyond self control. Not sure what if any answers there are but I caution my kids constantly..

The dopamine rush mimics the digital gaming age they’ve grownup with over the past decade.

I’m sorry but this makes Pear making a semi pro basketball team look pedestrian if Sorsby is allowed to play this season

Completely agree, but Sorsby’s biggest problem concerning the NCAA isn’t the addiction, it’s the first bet he made on his own team, not to mention the subsequent early bets that led to his addiction.

He's not being ruled ineligible for having an addiction.

He's ineligible because he placed a bet...and worse he bet on games he had inside knowledge on...and, perhaps, even bet against his team (which begs many other questions).

He's trying to use the fact that he is a addict (allegedly) to excuse him for doing that. Even 1 bet justifies ineligibility. The idea that because he bet thousands of more times he shouldn't be ineligible is illogical.

He had prop bets on teammates. You didn’t do it to feel closer. You did it because you thought you had an advantage.

Really bad look:

Sorsby said he was unaware of an October 2022 bet on the under for Indiana's quarterback passing yards, nor a September 2023 bet on the under for the first half of a Hoosiers football game.

I’m conflicted. Like any addiction, you’re right, it’s beyond self control. At some point, he made that first bet, the first one on his team. At that initial point, he knew damn well it was wrong and the possible consequences if caught.

I’m not saying he should be damned to hell, but he has to own up to some of this.

While Sorsby was enrolled at Indiana from June 2022 to December 2023, he acknowledged making at least 2,900 bets that totaled more than $30,000.

Between Sept. 2, 2022, and Oct. 22, 2022, Sorsby made at least 40 wagers on Indiana football and/or individual members of the team. According to the documents, the bets ranged from $1 to $114 and totaled at least $850.

This guy just loves action. Looks to me he was just betting $10 to $20 most of the time…and lol at $1 bet…sure that was a parlay.

If he wasn’t fixing his own games I’d reinstate him.

Did anyone else see where he undermined his own argument about how it is an addiction?

quote:

"My betting became a compulsion which made it virtually impossible to resist the constant notifications I received from betting apps. I lost complete control of my addiction. I now realize the apps controlled me and I did not control them."

So he started betting (presumably on his own team in 2022) and developed an addiction.

That sounds like he voluntarily was betting on his own sport AND team.

Now the NCAA can't touch him because of his DISEASE/DISABILITY.
