I don't know the current status of this, but Michigan and USC were going to fight a private equity deal in the B1G. I think some admins. realize this may end with everything burned to the ground.

Born too late to explore the world

Born too early to explore the stars

Born just in time to watch universities annihilated by private equity

Pro football to me feels more like college football now. You can at least get to know your players knowing they will be there a few years

There is more team buy in, community buy in etc for an nfl team now than college

So no longer college football, just an organization of guys who happen to play ball on a campus.
It is already this

Look at Homey badger, booger, and spears on how they act when lsu or college football is mentioned vs Burrow or Daniels etc

It’s just not close to the same . You will still get some players that love their college and never “leave”, but for the most part that has gone

How exactly is the PE firm going to get a return on this investment? When the sports media rights bubble busts there’s no other way to make your money back.

This is like piling in at the very end stages of a bubble.

In 2008, Chicago leased their 36,000 parking meters to some private firm for an upfront payment of $1.5B. The deal is in place for 75 years. The firm has already generated over $2B in revenue. The city also pays the firm when meters are down. They temporarily stopped running the meters during Covid. Then got sued and had to pay the firm for lost revenue

How the frick does someone think it’s a bright or even legal to lease out parking meters? Parking lots or Garages, yeah I can understand a private-public partnership for that, but to turn over your parking meters to private equity? You know, Chicago deserves the problems it creates for itself.

So basically public universities are going to spin off their athletic department into for profit corporations.

How in the hell are governments allowing this sort of thing The public has a say in how public universities are run.

We need legislation on this shite immediately

We'd win that one too.

Hatred of PE, the one thing that unites both sides of the political spectrum

There is a huge populist surge on both sides of the political spectrum left and right currently.

It's because everyone can see how utterly rigged every aspect of society and business is.

What the vast majority of people want is completely irrelevant to how things are run. The sham elections we have don't change anything

The thing tbat made CFB great was it wasn't soulless and corporate like the NFL. not anymore. The money ruined this. The tradition is dead.
This is possibly a reasonable statement - as long as you are pegging the date it happened as MUCH MUCH earlier than 2025.

n an arms race this what happens. Texas Tech and Utah got left out of the country club, so in a fight for survival they found new ways to bring in money independent of ESPN/Disney and Fox. I don't agree with it and it will hurt college football, but then again I don't agree with conferences selling out their autonomy to the Disney either.

To stop this the SEC and B1G are going have to accept some limits on spending, which mean collective bargaining, salary caps for everyone in college football. They opened the door to this world....now fix it.

Yep. Thing is The SEC and BiG strutted around telling the little guys what was what for the last 15 years or so. Mocking anyone and everyone not in their little club. I guess they forgot their arrogant BS would motivate capable people that might not care too much for that BS to push back. So they innovated. Remember oppression begets revolution.

F* em I hope Utah and Tech and others bury the old guard that have oppressed others for decades. As Wulfgar said. "I represent oppressed peoples." And capitalism is my club.

U of U was founded by Mormons and heavily influenced by them, even if it's officially a state university - it's their state.

All of this, by far. College is a joke.
