That's the word- they announced they were entering portal but paperwork has not been filed yet. Things will get interesting on that front

Ul much better softball than Texas tech. Stupid to leave

this scenario worked out best for UL. Glasco moved on and Habetz came in. Both parties win imo

He was told he should be happy for what he gets and needs to make it work. TT called he told them he has to have a commitment to X, Y, and Z. TT says we will give you whatever you need Coach G. He leaves.

This is all secondhand from someone who bleeds Vermillion and White and I don't even want to know what he gives to RCAF and Krewe for Cajuns athletics.

Yep. The dude who TT’s field is named for is CEO of a very prosperous oil company. Believe his wife played softball at Tech. They’re ready to make that softball program nationally relevant.
I think NIL raising from individual fans of the Cajuns is going to be tough. I’ll contribute specifically to the sports I want to support, but I’m not paying into a fun to give money to a kid who already has a scholarship, while I’m having to fund college for my own kids currently enrolled. F all that.

Habetz will have the exact same problem here, too..
UL is one of the worst programs in the country when it comes to engaging young fans, students, alumni, etc..
They're relying on donations from individuals and a handful of wealthy families/corporations who are more interested in a tax writeoff and going to LSU games than they are athletic success in Lafayette.

Absolutely. The ghost of Ray Authement still looms in Martin Hall, with either disdain for athletics, or a fear of being “too successful” and suddenly having to deal with expectations.
We need a university president like the recent guy at Texas State. He got to San Marcos and eventually started ramping up promoting TX State athletics, and they’ve begun an aggressive marketing approach for fans and alumni involvement.

I'm sure you can blame administration on a lot of things (as can most schools), but one thing you can't blame them for is your softball program. You have a first class facility and first class coach.
What it lacks is something only the fans, not administration, can give: NIL money.
Further improvement is on the fans, not the administration.

Should it really be up to fans to carry our NIL budget? I thought NIL was supposed to be players' way of making money when businesses use their name, image, or likeness to advertise their company?

Glasco was promised $250k for NIL at UL and only actually received $100k.
Texas Tech was at $250k on their roster last year and promised Glasco more.
I don’t know if he is a National Championship level coach, but he will have the financial support of a championship level program.

Double Eagle plays primarily in the Permian basin if im not mistaken
Cajuns need the GOM to be great again
Edit- yep
quote:
Double Eagle Energy Holdings IV, LLC is an independent oil and natural gas company focused on development and production throughout the Permian Basin. Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, Double Eagle IV was formed in 2022 by the same management team that successfully led its predecessor companies The company was formed with over $1.7 billion of equity capital commitments from EnCap Investments L.P. ("EnCap"), Apollo Natural Resources ("Apollo"), Magnetar Capital ("Magnetar"), Double Eagle Management ("Management"), and other strategic institutional investors. The formation of Double Eagle IV follows the successful sale of DoublePoint Energy, LLC’s assets to Pioneer Natural Resources (NYSE: PXD) in May, 2021 for $6.4 billion. DoublePoint was formed through a partnership with Apollo, Magnetar, Quantum Energy Partners and GSO Capital partners in 2018.

That’s the case for maybe another month or so then the universities will be able to pay players directly

Not politically viable at the moment.

UL is definitely historically better, but as with any other college sport, if you're not part of the cash cow, you'll get left behind eventually
Posted on 6/27/24 at 12:00 pm to jmcwhrter
Yep.
Used to be the big cash school were at least mostly limited to buying their rosters out of high schools.
Now they can buy an experienced roster poaching other established collegiate rosters.

Ummmm….with the Habetz hire the Cajun fan base is absolutely ecstatic, so I would not waste any time worrying about us, lol.
I don’t think I ever seen an entire fan base so happy with a new coach, and excited about the future.
As has been said by many, this was not a home run hire, it was a grand slam home run hire.
