You said at least a few schools.

UC Irvine is the only one. They had more than a 5 year gap between their two CWS appearances and I shouldn't have included them on that list

The rest:

Arizona State - 07, 09, 10
Arkansas - 09, 12
Cal State Fullerton - 06, 07, 09
Clemson - 06, 10
Florida - 10, 11, 12
Florida State - 08, 10, 12
Georgia - 06, 08
Louisville - 07, 13, 14
LSU - 08, 09, 13
Miami - 06, 08
Mississippi State - 07, 13
North Carolina - 06, 07, 08, 09, 11, 13
Oregon State - 06, 07
Rice - 06, 07, 08
South Carolina - 10, 11, 12
Texas - 09, 11, 14
TCU - 10, 14
UCLA - 10, 12, 13
Vanderbilt - 11, 14
Virginia - 09, 11, 14

If 2 World Series victories over a 5 year span makes a program elite, then there are a lot of elite programs.

And notice that I never said this. That's something you came up with on your own. 2 national seeds, 2 different appearances in the CWS, another trip to a Super Regional during a 5 year stretch is pretty close to elite.

That's not 2 trips in a 5 year period.

I corrected myself and said it was just two.

Not unless they bring back the UC. And get their legislative schollies back

And let me just say, it seemed elite to me. 2 national seeds including a number 1 seed in a 5 year stretch along with all the other stuff I mentioned. If it wasn't elite it was close and elite is an arbitrary word, you guys are the ones hammering away at the quote googling every team that has put up something similar.

Here's a Q and A with Pierce from yesterday. LINK

The mechanisms that allowed for those early 2000s teams to be formed is not presently there

Tulane has the School of Continuing Studies now, it's similar to the UC. I don't know that legislative scholarships for the baseball team are done for.
Pierce said they won a NC at Rice without even having need based financial Aid in place.

I would say most of these schools are elite at baseball. Save 2 or 3.

I have utmost respect for your former coach Skip Bertman. What a true gentleman and great coach. I remember the great Super Regional series with LSU at Zephyr Field. After Tulane won he came over and spoke to the Tulane team and told them what to expect in Omaha. What a class act!

I wonder what the rant would say about that?

Respectfully disagree with you. Tulane baseball was the Number One ranked team in the nation for most of the 2005 season/ year and came in to the College World Series as the number one seed. Also we are ranked by US News and World Report as the top 52 academic national university in the nation and the top academic university in Louisiana.

Tulane isn't a stepping stone job in baseball. It's a place coaches want to be. Jones turned down offers from UGA and others.
Plus if Texas/Rice want Pierce in 5 years it probably means he's done a damn good job at Tulane and it won't be hard to get another good coach.

If that is true then Jones was crazy.

Tulane's not a stepping stone in baseball. We compete with the top programs financially, in attendance, and with a 64 team tourney, no access problems.
