Kobe Bryant couldn't cut it in soccer, so he had to settle for basketball.

Gyasi Zardes is a good focal point from the USMNT for this. Has the athleticism of a Division 1 receiver but his touch is horrid. It is likely that his touch never developed in America because he never needed to because he dominated youth games on athleticism alone. At the pro level he is just a good MLS player. Now if you stuck OBJ in Germany as a kid and not the US, then I bet he'd be a solid player

Take 11 NBA point guards, 11 NFL DBs, or 11 MLB shortstops or centerfielders. Put them in a time machine and take them back to when they were ten years old, and let them play soccer, and you'd have an argument. Anybody else, not so much.

ETA: TM7 might be one who could make an impact after a year or so of training.

I think true. I believe if you take the top players from NBA and make a team, MLB and make a team, and NFL and make a team, all three would be better if they focused only on soccer. Down vote away.

This is beyond fricking retarded. We're talking about a sport where 24 year old pro athletes drop dead on the pitch like every two years. It's also a sport where you're forced to go from jogging to sprinting in bursts, which is incredibly taxing. Not only that, a low center of gravity and balance is a big deal.

I don't see the obsession with discrediting soccer as a sport. Just get over it.

I agree with you completely. I have seen one soccer game in my life and found it to be a complete waste of my time. it ended 1-1 and people cheered.

like 40% of guys on an NFL offense are clinically obese.

I don't think that is a good argument when the "clinical" definition of obesity is usually debunked when it comes to top athletes. Hell, someone that is 6'0" 215 pounds is considered clinically obese. Chances are everyone that plays on the O-line, D-line is obese, as well as all LBers, most RBs, most TEs, and some WRs & Safetys. But in no way would they not be considered top athletes, and there is probably less than 1% of NFL players that could even make a major soccer roster *(outside of goalie) let alone compete.

*Being completely ignorant to the sport and what it takes, I would imagine some of the bigger WRs/CBs would be great goalies.

Being a great goalie takes a lot more than just having good reflexes and being able to catch a ball.

False. I'd put soccer athletes up there with NBA athletes because you run a lot.

at 10 years old they would already be behind the kids their age that had years in academy where they train hours every single day tho.

they would be facing kids like this 8 year old

with one year of training on endurance and footwork the three major sports could make teams better than MLS

That's a stretch at best, even taking into account that MLS is a lower tier league.

Bumping this thread for the genius OP that thinks soccer is some easy game that the US would just dominate after a couple years of training.

ETA: Not like OP is even watching the game to understand my post

How does that have anything to do with the level of athleticism?
