Well, someone feels a little insecure about their legacy.

Too bad Troy didn't get to play in this era of no defense and where qbs and wrs can't be touched.

He has a point.

It has become so easy to throw and complete a pass in the NFL these days due to the rule changes that have come to favor the offense. What Dan Marino did in 1984 was 10x more impressive than what Patrick Mahomes or any QB is doing right now.

Well considering it's random arse targeted stat, yes it is.

This was my thought. Why is The Athletic Kansas City pointing out that he has a 3rd of Aikman's TDs in less than 10% of the games?

If they are trying to make some point about the greatness of Mahomes, they really need to pump the breaks. He may be the best player in the NFL right now, but he may be shite by the end of the season or 5 years from now. Then who really cares how many TDs he has thrown for? You don't get in the Hall for having 2 or 3 great seasons.

I think the stat was intended to show how productive Mahomes has been.

Aikman was "targeted" only because his stats aren't that impressive. Do we have to pretend that Aikman was someone who was winging the ball all over the field and putting up huge numbers?

Aikman knows why he's in the hall, it's his Super Bowls.

So Troy’s tweet wasn’t disrespectful either.
No but it is stupid considering Mahomes has been a full time starter for less than 2 years.

NFL under Aikman is a totally different league nowadays.
I'm sure Aikman would love the protections afforded today's QB's.
With that said, it's not a bad gig when you can hand off to Emmitt Smith your entire career. That makes your play action job pretty easy.
Amazing Aikman started at college as a wishbone QB for the Sooners.

If Aikman played under these rules and with these offenses he would have lit it up. In his day dudes could tee off on qbs 3 seconds after the whistle. Drive them in the ground., mug receivers. Etc... Dude had a cannon and was accurate just was never gonna throw it 35 times a game with his running game.

This. Go back and watch footage of him. He was never flashy like Young or Farve. It was always about his accuracy. Dude went 3-0 in SBs by limiting mistakes and taking what the defense gave him.

But Yeah. He totally sucked and couldn’t throw worth crap:

in that era, with that team, Mahomes would have turned around and handed it to Emmitt just as much as Troy did

Aikman also played in an era where the defense was actually allowed to play defense. It's easier for QBs now than any other time previously.
