When he was drafted, there was a rumor that SF wanted to take Mac Jones but the optics of having 3 white QBs go 1-2-3 with Lance as a top option pressured them to take Lance.

I’d kick the tires on him for a late round pick, likely sucks but more of a chance to hit than Haener

With how easily shanahan moved to purdy, starting to buy the rumors he preferred Mac in that draft

He was drafted to high… I think most people can agree on that but this situation has been pretty shitty.. he doesn’t seem to fit what Shanahan wants to do and I don’t see how they thought he could with so few starts.

He is basically worthless right now. A major mess up by lynch and shanny.

I would hate it. The Falcons have 3 legitimate options at QB. Ridder - the starter, Heineke - the backup who is a verified NFL QB, Woodside - backup who knows A Smith’s system and started in Tennessee in a few games.

The fact that people give any credibility to the notion that one of the best FOs in football would do such a thing for such a reason is scary

If you're getting beat out by Sam Darnold I don't think it's a system issue.

Just my two cents.

Exactly why you don't spend 1st round draft picks on QBs who started 17 games. Don't care how great the stats looked.

What a waste of a pick that was.

The 49ers traded up to get Trey Lance.

quote:

The 49ers traded three first-round picks, along with a 2022 third-round pick, to the Miami Dolphins to move up and select Lance. Speculation flew as to whether San Francisco would take Fields, a standout signal-caller from Ohio State (drafted No. 11 by the Chicago Bears), two-time national champion Mac Jones (No. 15 overall, New England Patriots) out of Alabama or Lance, who lacked in college experience but offered enticing raw talent, once consensus Nos. 1 and 2 picks Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Wilson (New York Jets) were off the board.

Probably but they drafted a guy with very little experience, few high level snaps and who got hurt quickly. I don’t think anybody knows if he’s good

I mean...when you consider what the political and social climate was like at the time, it doesn't really defy belief. Those were very irrational times.

I wouldn't mind the Falcons taking a flier on Lance if they can get him at the right price

They were supposedly gonna take him at 4 had he been there over Pitts.

I believe people are underestimating Ridder. I really do.

Ridder isn’t a legit starting option with all due respect. Any unbiased football fan who watched him last year knows that he is not an NFL level starting QB. People like to quote Zero ints, but he was incredibly lucky with a number of stone cold dropped INT’s last season.

Heinicke is decent, but not a solution for the future.

Idk anything about Woodside other than thinking his name is pretty neat.

To me, Lance is a more talented version of Ridder. At least bring him in to compete. Neither guy is very refined at nfl passing or defense reading. Trey Lance can at least run the football a bit though. If I was Atlanta, I’d lean into the run game with a running QB.

Picking the centerpiece of your franchise due to skin color defies belief

Bosa wouldn’t be on the roster if the front office was that unhinged or cared about public perception
