Eh. Not really. Like I said, the Japanese HATE confrontation. Will avoid it at all costs because it’s embarrassing. It’s ingrained in their culture. So the fact a Japanese player said this and meant for it to be quoted means they probably fricking hate his damn guts

maybe but he plays the game a lot better then you could ever dream of and smarter when it comes to training than you and 99% of others

If this was here, some would dislike it, but it wouldn't be seen as disrespectful by a teammate. That's because our great grandfathers whipped those Japs down, and took away their aggression. The etiquette, with knowing when to bow, is like one of us North Louisiana rednecks taking communion at a Catholic wedding.

You don't reach the top of a physically competitive field without some level of moxie.
Some hide it, some don't.
Btw the minor league team he plays on is promoting his celebration on social media and encouraging fans to pick up on it. This is just one salty minor leaguer who is gonna seethe the entire time Bauer zooms by him into the big boy league.

Agree, my perception of Bauer has definitely changed after I started watching his YouTube channel.
the thread about it a couple of days ago got me to watch his stuff.
It is legit. The dude is not half bad.

The Japanese culture of respect finds this troubling and disrespectful to opponents.
They take bat flipping to the next level and are worried about that type of disrespect?

He does a sword celebration after every strikeout.
No he doesn’t.
He does it after a very specific type of K

I saw one guy try to imply it was racist for the white dude to be sheathing a sword at a japanese dude as if it's something Bauer came up with exclusively for when he played Japanese people overseas. Compared it to a Japanese pitcher doing finger guns at an American batter he struck out. The snowflakes aren't just over here.

Truth be told… for everybody saying respect their culture… dude playing baseball in Japan… it’s literally called America’s Pastime… if they don’t like it they can stop playing baseball

Is that what we told the guys from a third world Caribbean Island when they came to America to play “our” game? Did we tell them to stop celebrating and dancing around like buffoons?

He needs to sign with the Astros.

Astros can now sign him for cheap.

Japanese teams knew he did that before. They still signed him.
There is also the aspect that when you go to another country you should try to assimilate yourself to their culture and especially their work culture. He can do his thing, but if in Japanese baseball you don't show others up then you don't show others up. There was a time in American baseball if you jogged too slow around the bases after hitting a home run you'd get an inside pitch the next time you went up to bat.

He seems super cheesy. The redeemable quality is merely that he gives a lot of insight into his training and doesn't seem to censor himself much. So I guess the stupid sword stuff comes with the territory.
What's weird is that he has been training nonstop and is getting sent down to the Japan minors. Japanese majors are apparently very good.

I watched one of his recent outings and he got lit up.

I would like to see Japan MLB play some games against MLB teams in spring training.

I forget exactly what his stats are, but he’s not having a good year over there. Of course he hadn’t pitched in over a year either.
