I’m certain he would have gained enough time back on this descent to stay in yellow
We won’t know now about the last cat 1 climb dammit

I don’t like retroactive finishes, because as you said, strategic decisions regarding the descent allow for a bit of “relaxation” on the ascent. I’d rather them pick the furthest safe point along the descent and inform the riders that this will be the termination of the stage so they can continue racing up to that point.

Yup, and for the stage win since Yates had come back to Bernal on the descent.

I know weather has a mind of its own but the shite they're showing on the roads could have been predicted over an hour before it happened, no?

There's a mudslide too across the road. I don't think they had any clue it would be that intense. Not rideable.

It might feel different if yellow were not at stake, but you’re cancelling a still-safe portion of the descent on which the yellow jersey excels, with the opportunity to stay in yellow. And we literally just witnessed him doing that (recouping the time he just lost on the ascent) yesterday, so it’s more than just pure speculation. And they knew the ice was there well ahead of time.

I agree. I think they should have picked a point a little up the road from the leaders and taken the time.

Hard to tell how he would have done on the last climb.

No way in hell. He was down on bernal by 2 minutes. He would have lost even more time on the next climb. If this helps anyone it is JA

The top of the Col is the only place to end it.

You can’t just pick a spot and get a couple of guys with stop watches there

Would have been exciting to see what JA could have done on the descent, could Bernal have held on after such a big effort so far out? Would Thomas have attacked or my boy Kruijswijk

Tomorrow will be huge, I’m hoping Kruijswijk can hold on for a podium, but Bernal looks unbeatable

Stage is changes for tomorrow. Cormet de Roselend has a mudslide also, so going straight to Val Thorens. Great chance for Ala to keep the podium.

Entire stage is only going to be 60Ks. Through the valley and the climb. That's it.
