She is not new at this. She is very experienced. She knows where the limits are and she has pushed them in the past.

This part is what her defenders keep conveniently glossing over. You can't say she's just young, like 15-20 years ago. You can't say this is out of character for her, because she's gone on emotional tirades before. She knows better. Everyone else knows she knows better. There's no benefit of the doubt necessary here.

Hopefully, Martina's comments get some of the media to back off this crusade to spin Serena's nonsense into an act of feminist heroism. Here it is three days later, and Osaka's well-deserved spotlight is still being hogged away from her.

she likes to slam that racket huh. I can't listen to this shite about racism and sexism. She does this shite constantly. She just overall has a bad attitude and people give her a pass for being "fiery". No, she's a bad sport. frick her.

Serena could have just taken the code violation and gone on with the match though. She decided to lose her cool after Osaka was continuing to beat her, break her racket (another violation), and then continued to go after the ump.

She was seriously frazzled because Osaka was kicking her arse.

"She breaks Tennis rackets". Wah

Bo Jackson routinely broke Baseball bats and they created bobblehaeds of him breaking bats , baseball cards and TV commercials about his bat breaking episodes.

It's cool since he's just a competitor ,but Serena is an emotional b word.

The breaking a racket was just an observation. Has nothing to do with her being a bad sport. That would make no sense. Her constantly berating the officials is what makes her a bad sport.

Where did I mention Bo Jackson, any male athlete at all, or call her a bitch? gtfo putting words in my mouth. And get a better argument. The worst thing I said about Serena is that she is a bad sport.

She literally said that Serena was so consumed with the idea that the judge thought she was emotional and out of control that it made her emotional and out of control.

I was speaking of the general sentiment thrwon around here about her being a b word ( or whatever disparaging term used about her) I never claim you personally said it and sorry if it seems I suggested you did.

Bo Jackson must be a very bad sport as well and emotional with his constant bat breaking.

You want me to bring up Baseball players , Basketball and football players who berate officials routinely ? Far far worse language ? Routinely. " Competitors" .

The main reason he should be criticized is because of the code violation for coaching. That happens for both sides on pretty much all matches, and probably shouldn’t have been called in the Finals.

and she wasn't penalized for that. She was given a warning. and even told the umpire she understood why he gave her the warning. If she had simply let it be thereafter, she would have had no problems. But she couldn't help herself from breaking her racket after hitting a ball into the net and then went back to the first warning acting like it wasn't fair (breaking her racket had nothing do to with the original warning IMO, it was just a convenient excuse once she realized it was a mandatory point penalty). Even then, she only lost a point, not a huge deal. Well, then she double downed on stupid and continued to berate the umpire. Serena has no one to blame but herself and I hope the umpire never issues an apology for doing his job and not caving to Serena because she's the biggest name in the sport. She acted so damn entitled during that entire episode.

And let's not forget she was getting her arse kicked in the match. IMO that had more do to with all of this and she is using this as her scapegoat like she was cheated out of the win instead of the reality that she got worked by a 20 year old.

you literally responded to me and quoted me directly.

I just said her being a bad sport has nothing to do with breaking her racket. In the very last post. I guess I'll repeat myself for you. I made an observation that she breaks her racket. That doesn't make her a bad sport. Berating referees and competitors does.

You want me to bring up Baseball players , Basketball and football players who berate officials routinely ? Far far worse language ? Routinely. " Competitors" .

that would make them a bad sport as well. I don't know what you're trying to get at here. Berating officials for minutes at a time, in between sets, calling them names, threatening to hit them (Serena has done this) makes you a bad sport. Male, female, gender neutral, black, white, baseball, tennis, etc...

do you disagree?

How about instead of playing "whataboutism" and deflecting to other athletes (who are also bad sports for berating officials) you try to defend Serena, since that is the topic of discussion?

and most of them stop when warned or they're ejected from the game. Serena persisted. Not to mention, athletes in other sports that are known for doing this are criticized plenty. I'm just not seeing the sexist or racists angle Serena is pushing. IMO, she simply believes she's untouchable.

Venus is an amazing ambassador for tennis and a respected advocate for female athletes around the world. Win or lose, she comports herself with the dignity and class of an elder statesman.

Serena is an amazing advocate for Serena.

Guillen, Offerman, Zambrano, etc all have been raked over the coals by the media and teammates for their attitudes. I guess Serena can just act however she wants because she's a woman. Ridiculous.

This.

And the shame of the whole situation is that Osaka isn't getting her due for her remarkable performance because of Serena's antics.

Baseball is apples and oranges. They rant and rave but are IMMEDIATELY tossed. To the point that it gets ridiculous. Throw a bat? Gone. Glare at the ump? Gone.
