And yes it is unprecedented, no college coach has ever gone straight to managing a MLB team at least not that I've been able find info of
Yeah I agree with you with it being unprecedented. Was just replying on saying it was stupid. He has nothing to lose making the move.

This seems like an unprecedented and frankly stupid move by both parties
If it doesn’t work out for Vitello anyone in college baseball would hire him. This is like Saban going to the Dolphins. Vitello will be fine. Tennessee, on the other hand….
I bet he ends up at Arkansas eventually unless he crushes it in MLB

So for the price of a free agent utility infielder, they can hire one of the best college coaches in the country.
Why the heck not try that?

UT Tony Vitello $3.25 million VU Tim Corbin: $2,123,797 UF Kevin O'Sullivan: $1.77 million LSU Jay Johnson: $1.675 million Ole Miss Mike Bianco: $1.625 million UA Dave Van Horn: $1.45 million MSU Chris Lemonis: $1.325 million USC Mainieri: $1.3 million AU Butch Thompson: $1.275 million Pretty crazy. 9 SEC coaches would be in the top 16 paid in MLB. 4 would be in the top 12.
Jay Johnson is the highest paid coach now. He got a raise a couple weeks ago.

It's possible, DVH has 2-3 years left. But word has been for a minute that Wes Johnson will get the offer and accept, he is from Arkansas (Sherwood born and raised) and went to UA-Monticello. Guess it also depends on how he does at UGA the next couple seasons too.

His raise is $3.05M so still behind Vitello's $3.25M, well until he officially leaves at least.
But that clarifies the other guys post, since the article was in April and Johnson just got his raise.

Another SEC team said the same thing an about 18 months ago. They were preseason #1 and watched postseason from the crib.
They are also complete homos
Elander has been Tony’s right hand man and hitting coach since they showed up here in 2017.
Odds are it’ll work out and we will remain solid in baseball (although solid is a bit removed from where Tony has elevated the program post COVID).
If it doesn’t work out wgaf, it’s a tertiary collegiate sport

Because college to pros doesn’t translate but we’ll see if this experiment works.

Just to be clear, A&M could’ve hired Jay Johnson and still fricked up last season.
You all are perpetual losers

The dude is single and pretty young, if the money is right why not give it a whirl. No sense in going through life thinking what if.

and just to be clear, guess the spring and summer is about to be just football offseason again in knoxville

In 1972, Bobby Winkles left Arizona State to become a coach for the Angels, then became manager the next year. That's as close as I can find.

It will be very easy to go back to not caring about college baseball if we suck.
Still won’t erase the fact that we won a championship after ~5 years of caring. Meanwhile Aggy….

To find a boyfriend?
In reality, I’ve heard he and Danny White don’t get along.

There have been rumblings of this along with NIL revenue split but at the end of the day it’s a chance to coach a historic MLB franchise so he’d be a fool not to at least test the waters

There have been ‘rumors’ for a while that he might be Bi but obviously nothing substantiated.
I think he doesn’t want to deal with being under a microscope in a college town and all that comes with it.

Yeah but if it doesn't work out Buster Posey is probably out of a job.

Pat Murphy is a college guy. Didn’t go straight to manager though
