I think that all people who hate gays would oppose gay marriage, but to simply say that people who oppose gay marriage hate gays is just like saying all people who oppose liberal fiscal policy are racists. It's the sad, ugly state of political discourse in this country.

I'm perfectly fine w/ this. But it is in poor taste. And the guy doing it in this case is just a hateful bastard.

No reason getting into this, but I can pretty certainly say they dont. Plenty of people have different reasons why they are against gay marriage it doesnt mean they dislike them. I for one dont care who marries who.

come on now

clearly theres a stronger connection between opposing gay marriage/hating gays than opposing liberal spending/racists

you appear to be a rational, intelligent post, but thats a terrible comparison

Of course it's not on the same level, I was taking it to an extreme to show the flaw in the logic but it's the same concept.

The thing is there isnt much to support it and he talks about it as if it is fact.

I'm Catholic and am against gay marriage. That is my belief. I think they should be able to live together of course and maybe engage in something called "civil unions" but I don't think it should be marriage. That said, I respect gay people. I have friends that are gay, and they know I'm Catholic and we get along fine. Other people act like they respect gays and their rights, and go around throwing terms like "f-----" and "that's so gay". I'd say that's a lot more hateful towards gays than myself, but maybe some of you would disagree.

Alot of people have beliefs similar to those. I see nothing wrong with that. Many people believe allowing gay marriages will sort of diminish straight marriages. Not something I believe, but I understand it.

The old "I have _____ friends" so I'm not a bigot routine. We live in a country that explicitly has a separation of church and state, marriage is a government thing that the church should have no ruling on. You have no right to say gay people can't get married, I don't care what your religion taught you.

If someone went around saying they think women who committed adultery should be stoned to death because of their religion, would that be cool too?

That's perfectly respectable and it's your right to have those views. My only point in this thread is that you having those views does not give douchebags like AIH the right to completely shite on your personal life. If you had a gay son who committed suicide, he'd gleefully mock you as a victory for his hateful ways.

It's not respectable at all. Who put him up on a cloud of judgment. Interracial couples shouldn't be allowed to get married because it's just unnatural. I have plenty of black friends who date white girls so I'm not a bigot, promise.

Just to be clear: You're saying that anyone who opposes gay marriage has no rational basis for doing so and is a homophobe? You're also saying that any person who expresses such homophobic views forfeits all right to human respect and decency and mocking even the most sacred corners of his personal life is fair game?

I'm saying anyone who doesn't think gays should be allowed to get married shows an elitist attitude toward homosexuals.

So is your answer to my questions above "no"? I'm not clear.

And does "an elitist attitude" = hate in your opinion?

I've yet to hear of one reason to oppose gay marriage that makes any sense. The bible says a lot of stupid shite. I don't think they're homophobes, just because you don't like gay people doesn't mean you're afraid of them.

I've said multiple times in this thread that I don't think it's necessarily right, I'm saying it's plausible that it's the reason. Tony Dungy puts himself in the spotlight, he chooses to rant against gays so it's his fault when rumors like these come out.

Racists show an elitist attitude toward other races they view as inferior, does that = hate in your opinion?

I think you're doing the debate a great disservice. It's a much more complicated issue than you are giving credit. This really isn't the proper forum for that so I won't get into it. I don't necessarily come out on a different side of the debate than you but I respect both sides of the argument.

We agree here.

It's his fault that people think it's OK to make jokes and take pleasure in his tragedy of his possibly gay son dying? Or are you blaming the gay rumors on him? If so, how are the gay rumors his fault?

You must really love "Family Guy" to aim a hysterical rant like that at me.
