To help players, like Kawhi playing 46 minutes, the NBA may try target scores for OT

The NBA could reportedly implement a target score for overtime games, per @EricPincus
"That would prevent overlong broadcasts and overloading player minutes, like Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard's playing 46 minutes in a double-overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings on Friday."

Basketball has one of the only perfect overtimes in sports. Where you literally just keep playing exactly the same rules. And they're gonna frick that up

Barkley played over 46 minutes dozens of games per season. In 1996 at age 33 he played 58 minutes, aka every single minute, of a double overtime game against the Lakers

In a time where the fastest paced team in the league would be near dead last in pace in today’s game.
It’s also weird to chose Barkley, when after he hit his 30’s he had only one season where he played more than 70 games(71 to be exact, one time), and averaged around what the top 20 in mpg today average. So he played about the same minutes in his 30’s as the top 20 today in mpg today, missed at least a dozen games on average, but with less pace and fewer possessions per game.

Thought this was the BEE tbh. It’s hilarious they used Kawhi as their example Bc he’s been a huge time management bitch the last 4 years.

Love the NBA actively encouraging its stars to play less when that’s one of its biggest problems, stars not playing nearly as much as they used to.

I hate the NBA. It’s called bench depth. Have some decent players that can come into games so the 3 prima donnas can get their beauty rest

Bunch of pansies. Shits unwatchable.

This is the same league that fines teams for resting players, correct?

Stop watching the NBA...Adam Silver is the worst commissioner in the history of professional sports in America.

The horror of getting paid millions to play a game for less than an hour every other night or so.

They also beat one another up for 4 quarters. Not just run to the other side and chunk up a 3.

I just don't understand society's constant and unyielding attempt to try to FIX EVERYTHING even when nothing needs fixing. You see it every.single.offseason in colelge football with tweaking rules just a hair here and there. Yearly! How can you tell me that there is enough of a problem wiht the way the sport operates that it needs rule changes every 12 months? These people are just solving "problems" that don't actually even exist, simply so they can point and say "look what I did!"
I mean the audacity to claim that a fricking professional athlete jogging for 46 minutes over a couple hour span is a problem that needs fixing is an insult.

overloading player minutes
How about the NBA just gets rid of say 15 games. Now they dont have to have any back to back games, stars feel more rested and would more likely play more games.

Decreasing total games seems to be what makes the most sense but owners will be giving up revenue. I could see this being a give/take in the next CBA. Players give up like 0.5% of revenue to decrease games.
